Getting Sick at School by Rebecca

The emergency room wasn’t something I had any experience with in the past. That is, until last week. Last week, the girls’ wing of my floor had three girls go to the ER! I say that that’s three too many. It’s crazy to think that that many people got hurt/sick in such a short period of time. Two of them even went on the same day. I’m really hoping I’m not next in line…

Class Schedule Catastrophe by Carla

I woke up at a quarter to seven yesterday morning to compete with other students for the perfect schedule. I had a master plan. I was desperate enough to wake up before the sun and any person in their right mind to secure that plan. Why? Mainly, I don’t want to end up that sixth-year senior who forgot to fulfill her natural sciences requirement, and I don’t particularly want to be stuck taking an 8 a.m. jogging class. You get the point. So, with this in mind, I set my alarm sharply for 6:45, rolled out of bed, and experienced the chaos that is class scheduling.

Making Friends by Rebecca

Making friends can be a challenge in a new place. College seems like a perfect place to make friends, but sometimes it isn’t as easy at is seems. I’ve learned this the hard way. The first few weeks, I hung out almost exclusively with my roommate, and this has led to my current dilemma.

College Communication by Rebecca

When I graduated high school, I assumed that I’d be leaving the high school drama behind with the rest of high school. Turns out, it’s just translated into college drama. Right before fall break, you could practically see the tension in the hallway. I assumed that fall break would give everyone a chance to calm down and chill out. I was definitely wrong on that one. I got back Tuesday night and all I could hear was yelling. Everyone was all wound up. Drama with roommates, drama with friends, drama with significant others. It all came down to lack of communication.

Guest in Your Home by Demetrius

Fall Break has come and gone, and though I did not go home because I was touring with the amazing Bowling Green Men’s Chorus, I have heard so many stories of how some first year students feel like a stranger in their home when they finally go home for more than just a weekend.

Stress-Free Zone by Carla

This past week, the honors program put on an event called the “stress-free zone.” Its purpose was to ease stress over midterm exams with treats like Cookie Jar cookies and catered Tim Horton’s breakfasts.

Invisible Children by Rebecca

Last Tuesday here at BG, the organization Invisible Children came to speak. Invisible Children is an organization that works to get children out of being child soldiers. Basically, in Uganda there has been a war between rebel group the Lord’s Resistance Army, more commonly called the LRA. The LRA is led by a man named Joseph Kony who kidnaps kids and forces them to fight for his army, which is only 10% adults and 90% children.

October Already by Rebecca

Today marks the first day of October. Funny, I had hardly begun to believe that it was September and then all of the sudden, it’s October! This month brings fall break, midterms, registration for spring classes and Halloween (which happens to be my boyfriend’s birthday as well). It’s strange to think that we’re already registering for spring classes. I feel like summer was just here and I was worrying about if I would be able to find all of my classes.

Adjusting to a New Town by Daniel

My life has been changing so much in my semester at BGSU, and one of the biggest changes I’ve had to adjust to is the new town.

The Art of Not Falling by Carla

A few weeks ago, someone asked me, “What’s the theme for homecoming? I forget.” I’d forgotten, too.  I’d seen it on the University website somewhere, but the slogan had since slipped my mind. Yesterday, as I snapped pictures at the grand opening of the ice arena, I saw this slogan everywhere.  It was printed across banners, spelled out on signs, typed onto hand-outs and even scripted in frosting across big cookie cakes.  It read, “Then, now, always.”  Homecoming weekend is over now.  The football team has probably seen better days, but I personally could not imagine a greater weekend.  My homecoming experience began with the strange fun of riding in the centennial homecoming parade.
