How do you celebrate your Valentine’s Day at BGSU?

funny-valentine-memes-2Valentine’s Day is right around the corner which means it is either going to be the best or worst weekend ever for students at BGSU. Whether you have a significant other or not, there are plenty of ways to celebrate your Valentine’s (or anti-Valentine’s) Day at BGSU! Being tight on money is all a part of the college experience but that doesn’t have to get in your way for Valentine’s Day. You can have a Netflix movie night in your dorm room or apartment with your significant other and order a … Continue Reading

If you’re an LGBT student worried about being accepted, stop worrying NOW

When I sat down to write this post, I struggled to find an exciting story or inspiring anecdote that exemplified three years as a gay student at BGSU.

I was scanning my brain for something remarkable.

Where were the dramatic stories of explaining my sexuality to my roommate? What about inspiring chats at the LGBT Resource Center? Didn’t I find refuge by writing for OUTspoken Magazine?

None of those things happened to me. In terms of being gay, my life was boring. Typical. Unremarkable.

My BGSU life was just like anyone else’s BGSU life: freshman-year homesickness, roommate ups and downs, sleeping through my … Continue Reading

It’s Normal to Break-Up with Your High School Sweetheart

there-just-comes-a-time-when-two-people-outgrow-each-other-quote-1When you come to college, it is normal to break up with your high school sweetheart.

College is a much different place than high school. There are new people, new environments, new situations. It can be a time where people truly find out who they are and where they want to go with their lives.

It’s also a … Continue Reading

When nothing changes but you

Here’s to growing up! Here’s to becoming someone who is entirely your own.  And here is to making changes for the better.

So, strangely enough, this year I got to go home for spring break! And let me tell you, I am glad I did, especially since I won’t be coming home this summer.

But have you ever wondered what is different about each time you come home? I mean really, every time I come home I feel like everything is the same, yet different.  I suppose a quote from the movie, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” might help with such … Continue Reading

What makes us embrace the ‘single’ life all year EXCEPT Valentine’s Day?

“Oh, my gosh!  I hate Valentine’s Day because I do not have a significant other.”  One of the many common quotes you hear from single folks on Valentine’s Day.  These comments make me wonder a couple of things: 1) Why are people so cynical? 2) What makes Valentine’s Day so different from any other holiday?

Addressing my first point; I believe people get far too cynical around Valentine’s Day.  I would like to provide a reality check – you do not need a significant other to feel loved/cared for on Valentine’s Day (or any other holiday).  I think we should all … Continue Reading

Relationship Woes by Demetrius

We all go through them…we all hate them. It’s the problems of love that make our hearts weary and our eyes teary. …sigh…that’s what we do … sigh and hope to feel better at the end of the day. But!! I am here to help a little…just a little…mind you I am going through these problems so OBVIOUSLY I am NO expert by any means but I can offer the helping hand.

Blending the “Then” with the “Now” by Demetrius

When you’re a kid, everything is so easy. When you want to make a mud pie, you go and find some way to do it. You have time to spend on doing nothing with your friends. By the time you reach middle school, you start going through changes and you have your best friend there to give you any support, or the much needed random laugh of the day so you can make it through. By the time you get finished with the hellish hole of high school, you and your best friend(s) have gone through so much that there is no way you are letting them go because you love them like they were practically birthed from your mother.

Some Relationship Advice by Rebecca

This weekend has been pretty laid back so far. A lot of the girls on my floor have gone home for the weekend. Last night, I hung out with my friend Makenzie for a little while and then we headed over to Active Christians Today because they were having a (FREE!) cookout. What college student in their right mind would turn down free food? It got really cold last night, so Makenzie and I didn’t stay long. I met some people who thought it was crazy that I got to blog for BG, they were so jealous!

Friends Becoming Family by Brittany

When I moved to college, there were many things I was worried about. I was altogether very nervous to be uprooting my life and starting over. I knew that the near future was very uncertain and it could end up being great, or not so great. I had heard so many horror stories about roommates and even had some friends that had dropped out their first years of college. I didn’t want to be a part of either of those possible situations.

High School Never Ends . . . Lie! by Demetrius

You would be so surprised as to how many people told me before coming to BG, “You are only from Sandusky! It is basically GLORIFIED high school and it is gonna be the same DRAMA filled place!” …where is a glove so I can smack those people for lying to me. I have been in college for nearly a month now and it is SO very different. There are barely any similarities at all to my very DRAMA filled Sandusky High School, and my easygoing Bowling Green State University.
