Wind, Space and Other Assumptions by Carla

In a recent conversation with my parents, my father pointed out to me that I’d been very excited to start school here last August. He wasn’t joking.  I made plenty of visits here over the summer – exploring the town, flooding my camera with pictures and even sneaking up to the third floor of my residence hall to see my room. Of course, I couldn’t resist taking  a picture of the desk clerk who snuck my mother and I up there. She looks nervous in the picture. It was all pretty funny. Now, don’t get me wrong—I still find parts of college life exciting.  I’ve just gained an insider’s perspective of it. Five months in, I’ve busted a few myths and attacked some false assumptions.

Snow Days No More by Rebecca

I’ve decided I’m not a big fan of real life. I’m sure this sounds confusing. Let me be more specific. I’m not a fan of not having snow days any more. College feels like real life more now that snow days don’t really exist. Luckily, I’m going to be a teacher, so snow days will come back for me.

Getting Back in the Swing by Rebecca

Holy good night! If it’s at all possible, this semester is flying by faster than last semester! It’s already Wednesday of the second week of classes … In my mind, I’m stuck back in winter break. The weekend was a flash, though that may have something to do with the fact that I was sick on Saturday. This past weekend was mostly about resting for me because I wanted to get better. Now, it’s back to schoolwork.

A Nice Use of a Saturday by Carla

On any given weekend last semester, I was typically doing laundry, doing homework, frequenting Outtakes or sleeping.  There was little variety. This past week has been manageable, however, so I’ve had time for all of those things. Left with some free time, I made the most of my weekend. I went with my learning community to the COSI in Columbus on Saturday.

Back in BG by Rebecca

Wow, has it been a long time since I’ve had the time to post. Now it’s a new semester, so hopefully I’ll have more time. I moved into a new room for the spring semester, and I’m really liking it so far. It gets kind of lonely at night, because I don’t have a roommate, but other than that not having a roommate is really nice. I’ll probably end up getting a roommate before the year ends, but that’s okay with me. Winter break has just ended and it’s the first week of classes. I’m definitely excited to be back in BG.

Getting the Hang of It by Carla

Spring semester started today.  I woke up at 6:30 this morning, to a dark room and a burst of excitement. There’s something great about the first day of school. I feel a little like a kindergartener in this sense.

Home Sweet Home by Carla

Exams are over, grades are posted and I am home, celebrating the holidays with family. What could be better? I looked forward to this break for many reasons, but namely, I could not wait to sell back textbooks, toss old papers and start a new chapter of my college life. As soon as I’d finished my last final, I cleaned my room once over and packed my car. From here, it was just a waiting game.  I had a fair idea of what my grades were, but it would be about a week before they were posted. I made it home, kicked back and relaxed—being sure, of course, to check my Blackboard grade book every thirty minutes.
