Honors project consumes student’s life (in a good way)
There are stacks of books on my desk that feel seem like they’re 5 feet tall.
It’s like I’m in a little book cave, surrounded by chapters and sticky notes, cut off from the rest of the world.
All I’ve been staring at for the past three hours are words and words and words on worn-out white pages.
I have begun my Honors Project.
Though at first I was intimidated by the proposal and the bibliography that I need to complete by
the end of the semester, I am starting to view the project as an intense learning process rather
than a course requirement.
Every student in the Honors College must complete an honors project in order to graduate with honors.
The project is split into two semesters, the first being the proposal course and the second being the project production course.
Though it is typical for the proposal and project to be done during a student’s senior year, I have decided to get an early start on mine due to my recent trip to Thailand. I shot a lot of video on my trip and I plan to turn my footage into a documentary for my project.
This semester, in my proposal stage, there is more research to do than I would have imagined. I am not a huge reader and the thought of having to annotate 15 sources is extremely frightening to me, but I also am extremely excited about what I will find.
Though I’ve already gone on my trip, I am now learning so much more about this country.
My research is teaching me things that encourage me to make my project the best it can be because it will be paying tribute to such a wonderful place.
I am scared to tackle this huge task in front of me, but I am already seeing the wonderful things I will take away from it.
