Procrastination runs in our genes

It’s that time of the year….

It’s the most, most stressful time…. of the year! (Must be sung to the tune of a Christmas carol.) Midterms are quickly approaching with lots of mini-assignment mixed in as well. What to do!? Seeing how this is my senior year you would think I’d have all the answers, but I don’t. I do have a few tips that help me get through this stressful time with only a few gray hairs.

Do

  • Study in advance
  • Get plenty of rest
  • Maintain a healthy diet
  • Find the best studying technique for YOU

Don’t

  • Wait until the last minute
  • Stay up all night cramming
  • Skip meals
  • Think everyone studies the same
  • Stress

I’ve learned from experience that these tips really help you receive the highest grade you can achieve (corny phrase I know). Throughout the four years that I’ve been here, I have a few experiences where I really wish I had utilized this rules. I have also had a few experiences where the rules really helped me.

Procrastination is something that runs strong in the genes of many college students. With me, it was a way of life.  I would only do things the day before they were due. I think this came from an ongoing trend that originated in high school.

Whenever I have procrastinated and waited till the night before to study, I rarely get a grade higher than a C. When I finally began to study as an ongoing process, I was able to receive As on my exams.

Honestly, the extra time does make a difference! I think the most important tip, is don’t stress! If you allow this time of the year to get to you, you will have a really hard time following these rules. Good luck!
