BG nursing major likes that she gets to take classes at UT
When people think of Bowling Green State University and all of our amazing programs that we offer, our nursing program might not pop in your head.
However, as a senior in the program, I can honestly tell you that it is just as Falcon awesome as all of our other programs.
If you decide to pursue nursing, keep in mind that you will be considered a pre-nursing student. As soon as orientation, you will have advisers and faculty to help you. That help will continue throughout your first two years of taking chemistry, biology and anatomy.
The nursing department outlines all of the classes you need to take, so there is no guessing or wasting time and money on classes that you do not need.
After nearly two years of classes on the campus of BG, you will then get to apply to the nursing program!
The program here is a little different than other schools because it is shared with The University of Toledo. The program is based on UT’s medical campus, which gives students more opportunities to work in a hospital setting.
For the summer, fall, and spring semesters, the program accepts the top 80 applicants total from both universities.
Since the program is in Toledo that means all of the classes will be in Toledo, which scares some students, but it is not as bad as it may seem at first.
The facilities are state-of-the-art and the nursing lab is new and beautiful!
All of my teachers and professors have been nurses who want to help you reach your goal.
Even though nursing students have to drive to class each day, it gives us the opportunity to meet new people who share the same interest. Being in Toledo also allows us the chance to network within the medical community.
Once in the program, every semester you take four-to-five classes that meet once per week. Depending on your semester, you will have one or two lab courses or lab meetings.
Being a nursing major is a hard thing; however, it is also one the best and most rewarding parts of my life.
I am only halfway through it, but being part of the BG nursing community has given me more than enough tools and resources to be successful and graduate with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and then sit for my nurse exam.
