Home is nice, but BGSU is nicer

As winter break begins to end, this is a great time to reflect upon my past two to three weeks at home.  The first few days of winter break started out with visiting my friends and family in Pittsburgh, while also moving my sister from one apartment to another.

Then, I was home for a week and did just about nothing.  I slept in until 10 a.m. every day, watched a lot of TV and ate too many Christmas cookies (before Christmas even arrived).  Christmas came and went in a blink of an eye, and more relaxation/do nothing was on my agenda for the week.  My mom is moving in with her boyfriend so I spent about 12 hours one day moving. I was incredibly sore and sick of being home by this point.

My original plan for New Year’s Eve was to come to BGSU to visit with friends, but I decided to take a spontaneous trip to Washington, D.C., to visit another friend.  Washington, D.C., was definitely worth it!  I loved seeing the monuments and museums and such.

After my long weekend in D.C., it was time to come back to Dover.  Since I was supposed to be in BG for New Year’s, I signed up to work on the 3rd, and I was leaving D.C. on the 2nd.  I was in Dover for about three hours before I left to return to BG late on the 2nd.  Now, I am working and hanging out.

Campus and town are EMPTY!  I gave a tour today, and not one single student was in the Union.  It was a very strange feeling.  I like campus when there are actually people here.

The “moral” of my story is you slowly get sick of being home.  I am very close with my family and I love spending time with them, but I miss BG too much.  After my freshman year, summer went incredibly slow because I just wanted sophomore year to start.

Now during winter break, I spend less time at home because I know I can be enjoying it at BG (and also make money working here).  I have my own apartment, so it’s easier for me to do.  But if you ever want to come up during break, ask an upperclassman if you can crash on his or her couch for two nights!  Offer to buy some groceries in return or something of that nature.  The students of BGSU are some of the friendliest I know, and they would let anyone stay with them for a few nights.

Until next time BG,

Mike
