What to Expect: Pre-Move-In
So you have a few final days before you find yourself at Bowling Green State University. Are you ready for the whirlwind of chaos coming your way? If not, here’s what you can be expecting!
Expect stress. Deciding what to take with you to college and what to leave behind can be daunting. How are you supposed to pack things that you’re going to need within the next couple of days? (My advice? Buy a second hairbrush, toothbrush, razor, etc. It may seem a bit outlandish but I promise it’ll help!) Expect the last few days in your house and your room to be spent among the clutter of random school supplies and dorm necessities. On top of all of this, there are so many things to do: doctor’s appointments, people to see, supplies to buy, and Netflix series to finish. But…
If you know these next couple days are going to be crazy, confusing, and chaotic, maybe they won’t take you by surprise. You can prepare for them and decide to face them head-on. Embrace the crazy and you’ll conquer it with ease.
Expect hard goodbyes. Soon you’ll find yourself worried about missing people you never thought you would: the annoying neighbor kids that wake you every morning, the mailman you see every afternoon, and the high school that you thought you’d never get out of. Or perhaps you’ll simply realize how #blessed you are to have an awesome family and great friends that won’t be a few feet away from you 24/7. But…
Use this next week to spend some quality time with your grandma, your dog, and your BFF.
You may not have the exact words for a great goodbye. That’s perfectly okay. Mentally prepare yourself for the awkward and tear-filled exchanges as you leave to start this new adventure.
Above all, expect excitement. You’re about to embark on an awesome journey of new experiences, self-realization, and many memories. SO GET HYPED Y’ALL. Know that the stress is temporary and the goodbyes are special. The stress will all pay off in just a few days. You may also be saying goodbye to some really great people, but there are a few hundred other people just waiting to meet you at BGSU!
