Roy LoPresti

Roy LoPresti: “

Maury Markowitz:

”’LeRoy Patrick ‘Roy’ LoPresti”’ (b. June 9, 1929, d. August 7, 2002) was an America aeronautical engineer best known for his work in the general aviation field. He designed the Grumman Tiger and Cheetah aircraft, was Chief Engineer and Vice President of Engineering at Mooney where he designed the Mooney 201 and its larger cousins, and worked ended at both Beech Aircraft and Piper Aircraft before starting his own company, ‘LoPresti Speed Merchants’.

Roy LoPresti was born to Agnes LaRusso and Patrick LoPresti in Lyndhurst, New Jersey. He received a degree in aeronautical engineering from New York University in 1950. After graduating he joined Grumman Aerospace on Long Island, New York, but was soon called to serve in the US Air Force during the Korean War. After the war he returned to work at Wright Field on fighter design, a job he stated was ‘made in heaven.'

When he returned to Grumman he worked on missile designs, but was later put in charge of design at their recently acquired American Aviation division in Cleveland, Ohio. American Aircraft was the current holder of the Bede BD-1 design rights, after Bede had been forced from the company. The BD-1 had promise, but required numerous fixes that American couldn’t afford on their own. LoPresti re-designed the plane and produced the famed Grumman Tiger and its derivatives. He stayed at Grumman for 16 years, during which time he worked on the Apollo Lunar Module, among other projects.

During the 1970s he moved to Mooney Aircraft where he worked on newer versions of the Mooney 201. He came up with the marketing plan to improve the 201 so that it would fly at 200 mph on 200 hp on the 200th birthday of America — July 4, 1976. He also led design of the 201’s larger cousins, the 231, 252 and 301. He then moved on to become the Vice President of Engineering at Beech Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas.

When Beech exited the light plane market, LoPresti quit in 1987 and joined Piper Aircraft in Vero Beach, Florida. There he worked on the SwiftFire and SwiftFury designs, based on the Globe Swift. They showed the prototype at EAA AirVenture in 1988 and returned with 131 $10,000 deposits.

However, Piper went bankrupt in 1991, leading to a huge legal squabble over the rights to the designs. LoPresti formed LoPresti Speed Merchants as an upgrade firm, making modifications to existing aircraft to make them fly faster. The company finally gained the rights to what is now called the Fury.

8 KOunt is a hard-driving, high energy modern rock band that has scored international attention in Metal Edge, Hit Parader, Concrete Corner and Fuse television. The band has recently released their debut CD, Cornered, and is following up with a KO live show in their quest for complete world domination!

The Russ-T Cobb (Avril Lavigne, Butch Walker, Sevendust, Bowling For Soup) and Ron Bennett produced disc delivers solid songwriting and an ample supply of both rock and pop sensibilities. Even a casual listen to songs like Insanity Defense and Fire In The Hole and you get the sense that this band is going places: to rock radio, to music television, and if you’re lucky, to a venue in your zip code. The band has already shared the stage with the likes of Shinedown, Red, Seven Mary Three, and Tantric; proving their live bona fides in front of screaming audiences.

The debut album Cornered can be found on various online websites such as: iTunes, Rhapsody, AudioLunchbox, CDBABY.com and of course @ www.8KOunt.com

The band features Jim ‘Sugar’ Sayer on Lead Vocals. Nick ‘Niki’ Tirey on All GuitarS. Robb’y D’Lor on Bass, and Tarry ‘TSumms’ Summers on the Drums.

8 KOunt is currently working on an, as of yet, untitled e.p. They have already completed three songs for the disc; ‘Ashes To Ashes’, The Real Disease’, and ‘Fight’

‘Ashes To Ashes’ was released as the band’s first single from the e.p. on August 17th, 2008, and was debuted on 102.7FM WEBN in Cincinnati, Ohio

During this time he burnt the midnight oil, playing to excess after work all over the country, from Scotland to Cornwall with various Midland based bands.

John went on, to become a well known face on the Birmingham music scene in the 80’s and 90’s, cutting his teeth with well known Midlands based band, The Soul Survivors, for some 15 years.

Battle of Hysiae

Battle of Hysiae: “

VasileGaburici: Quick-adding category ‘Ancient Greece’ (using HotCat)

There are perhaps two battles of Hysiae, one in 669/8 BC, another in 417 BC. Both are battles between Sparta and Argos.

The first Battle of Hysiae is attested in the ancient travel-writer Pausanias (2.24.7), who writes as follows:

‘Here are common graves of the Argives who conquered the Lacedaemonians in battle at Hysiae. This fight took place, I discovered, when Peisistratus was archon at Athens, in the fourth year of the twenty-seventh Olympiad, in which the Athenian, Eurybotus, won the foot-race. On coming down to a lower level you reach the ruins of Hysiae, which once was a city in Argolis, and here it is that they say the Lacedaemonians suffered their reverse.’
(trans W.H.S. Jones and H.A. Omerod)

The chronology of Pausanias would suggest that the battle was fought in 669/8 BC. All that is known is that the Argives defeated the Lacedaemonians. Some (Andrewes) have suggested that this Argive defeat of Sparta occurred when Pheidon was king (or tyrant) of Argos, since Pheidon was famed for his military success and daring, but this remains conjectural.

The second battle is attested in the historian Thucydides (5.83.2). Thucydides says that the Spartans marched against Argos in the winter of 418-417 BC with all their allies, but failed to take the city of Argos. They did, however, capture Hysiae, which was an Argive town, and killed all the citizen men within.

Some (Kelly, Hall) have suggested that the first battle of Hysiae was invented by the Argives.

db-nonsense

Derek M. Atta was born in 1984 on the island of Oahu to his parents Peter Atta and Maile Kojiyama. At the age of 5 Derek began participating in Judo and soon after became the Judo champion in the Pacific Rim area. In 1990, he defeated the ten time Judo champion Kazua Fumatsu in the most watched Judo match. That match was watched by over 100 million households world-wide. Due to this match Derek is one of the most prominent celebrities in the Phillipines, and makes over ten appearances a year for a substantial fee. In his middle-school years Derek began to follow his true passion of Pokemon. With the help of Charzar, Pikachu and Bulbasor Derek began his quest to become the Pokemon master. On this day his father Peter was quoted as saying, ‘This is the happiest day of my life. No son has ever brought more joy to his father than Derek has brought to me.’

Currently Derek is at Pacific University Physical Therapy program with the hopes of starting his own orthopeutic clinic. He is hoping to use the money that he inherited a few years ago to start the clinic. His uncle Ronald Reagan and his cousin Tupac Shakur each left a substantial amount of money to Derek, claiming that without Derek they would not have followed their life dreams and become such succesful men.

Wentzel Syndrome is the condition by where panic attacks or other symptoms of extreme fear are brought on by exposure to environments which the sufferer considers to be of excessive or extreme orderliness or tidiness.

The syndrome was first diagnosed by Dr. Nicolas Kelly and Dr. Francis Howes of Wolverhampton University in 1993 Pippa Wentzel, whose parents became concerned after she increasingly suffered panic attacks in rooms in which she was not allowed to rearrange objects, being calm only in environments in at least a basic level or disorder.

Thought to be the physical form of Teleophobia, Wentzel Syndrome is most likely caused by genetic predisposition to reject order combined with fear of developing, or fear of people who have or exhibit symptons of Ataxophobia.

There are currently around 150 confirmed cases worldwide.
