Rhetorical Analysis Questions

Posted by jross in English 207  Tagged

There’s not too many questions I have regarding what is required in the analysis. The assignment is pretty well layed out and the expectations are pretty clear. Although, I am struggling a little bit with a 3-5 page analysis. It seems quite long for a 45 sec PSA. I’ll make it work though.

In my own words, I would say the goal of the rhetorical analysis is to analyze our PSA and explain what methods, techniques, rhetoric styles were used to effectively deliver the intended message.

Rhetorical Analysis PSA

Posted by jross in English 207  Tagged

I chose this PSA because it forecasts some of the possibilities that may arise from a huge technological advance, such as automated food machines. I think the PSA does a good job at providing pictures of such machines allowing the reader to visually understand what the author is talking about.

Rhetorical Analysis

Posted by jross in English 207  Tagged

One technique that the author used that stuck out to me was the use of logos to appeal to the audiene. Alot of the examples that were cited where used to relate to the intended audience. In my opinion, this was the greatest technique used in this article.

After reading seeveral samples and considering my past knowledge and experiences with introductions, I think an introduction for a rhetorical analysis should include a strong thesis, and introduce the audience to the analyzed piece.

Spring Break

Posted by jross in English 207  Tagged

For the Spring Break of 2009, I went home to Columbus Oh. I didn’t really do much but it provided me with a time to relax and reflect. I spent a lot of time in the library, at the gym, and with my hometown friends. I really enjoyed having the freedom to go about my week how I wanted to. During these breaks, students get a chance to take time away from school and relax, vacation, etc.

My experiences with portfolios.

Posted by jross in English 207  Tagged

The only two times i’ve come in contact with portfolios are in my two English classes, English 111, and English 112. The basic concept behind these two porfolio’s was to organize all of our papers for the semester and sumbit them all together for the prof or teacher to grade. I have viewed a few E-porfolio’s in which resume’s have been posted, recommendation letters, etc. I probably need a more detailed explanation of what portfolio’s are for.

PSA Relating to Literacy

Posted by jross in English 207  Tagged

Our PSA relates to literacy because it focuses on being technologically literate. The video shows the importance of being literate and if not, what may result. Our PSA’s main theme is messages through cell phones. I would say this is one of the biggest literacy assets of our generation. We’ve had the first president ever to broadcast news, share views, and contact the public through txt messages. Being technologically literate is proving to be more and more essential to one’s everyday life.

Our group’s PSA is coming along pretty well. We just have to link up and get on the same page. Three of our group members got together saturday to shoot their portion, and I did mine on sunday. Today in class we hope to finish the PSA, or at least the video portion of it.

Computers in School

Posted by jross in English 207  Tagged

I think it is essential for students to have access to computers in school. Especially high school and college. Computers provide us with the necessary tools to write a paper, research a topic, check email, relay important message, and the list goes on. With the advancement of technology it is crucial that students become computer literate. Computers skills learned in school will provide students with the basic but necessary skills that are required at some jobs. Some may argue that computers offer students the opportunity to look up unappropriate sites, or waist time on social websites. Although this is true, given a student who will use it for education purposes, the positives far outweigh the negatives.

Part II – Audience – A travel companion on a train in Europe

The world is becoming so technologically advanced. If it weren’t for computers and the ability to book tickets online, who knows how long it would have taken us to book these tickets. Where did you learn how to use the computer for such activies? I learned in high school during computer classes and general use of computers for class assignments. You know, computers are essential to have in schools. They’re becoming an everyday tool required to function in the 21st century.
