Moving It Along

Well, yesterday was quite a stressful day…my client still can’t make up his mind and it is really holding me back from doing what I need to do to be successful.  My client told me yesterday that he needed a printout by the time I left work an hour before I was supposed to leave and then proceeded to make a ton of changes.  No one could have done what he wanted with an hour to do it and I felt super stressed out and frustrated…I guess it was just one of those days.  Anyway I ended up leaving work late and because of that I was late for school and it just made me very upset knowing that one thing lead to another.  I just want someone to give me the direction I need so that I can finish the job and get it off my plate.  I know that things get stressful when working with clients but I think this is the worst it has ever been because he just can’t make up his mind and he can’t give the direction I need to succeed.  I needed an image from him to so I could incorporate it into my project so he gave me an AI file that was missing the link of the image I needed.  That is just one of many things that occurred that day.  Anyway, I am slowly finishing things up now and working as hard as I can to please everyone.  I am optimistic that things will be a lot smoother and better from now on and I know that working on this has helped me learn a few things.  I have learned to be patient with people that are not easy to be patient with; I have learned to stay calm even when things aren’t quite going the way you had planned; and I have learned that I have to do my best to please and satisfy my client even if it means designing something I don’t necessarily like.

It sounds like you’re having a rough time. Hearing you talk about it though really reiterates the validity of the things we’ve been taught in more than a few VCT classes; encountering problems. It always makes things that much easier when everything goes according to plan. I hope you find your finished piece worth it!

Justin, I applaud your efforts. It really sounds like you’re going thru leaps and bounds to please your client. I know that I have worked with some trying supervisors in the past and it requires alot of patients. On the bright side however all of the things that challenge you in your day to day career only make you more knowledgable and experienced for the next job. Keep up the hard work and you will not regret it at the end of the semester.

It’s a shame you’ve had to endure this, but it has been a great view into what you’ll encounter when you move into doing this full-time. You’re going to have awesome clients and you’re going to have ones like this – you just hope you encounter less of this kind and more of the great ones! And remember that your problem clients will ALWAYS call you at 4:45 pm on a Friday with changes or a problem that needs to be fixed…just don’t answer your phone or email after 4pm on Fridays and you’ll be fine !(LOL) You hit is on the head when you said this has shown you that you need to be patient and that you might end up with a design that is not your favorite – those are key things to help you in the future. Good luck with this project!
