I recently listened to an educational podcast on behavior management. More specifically the website is called Dr. Mac’s Behavior Management site found at http://www.behavioradvisor.com/12022.html. The podcast was titled “Motivating the Unmotivated Student” This blog was helpful because it gave some helpful tips on how to diagnose why a student was unmotivated as well as tips to help motivate them. The biggest cause of not being motivated is the fear of failure. As educator’s we can try to conduct a Functional Behavior Assessment to determine the exact cause of the lack of motivation by looking at the antecedent, the behavior, and the consequence. To combat unmotivated students, teachers should stress the importance of learning by making mistakes more than accuracy and grades. The teacher should also praise the child with specific actions the child took and make them feel like they belong in the school. I found this website to be very interesting and helpful when it comes to classroom management issues.
