17-month-old Shut in Overhead Compartment on Flight

In an article by the Herald Sun, Natalie Williamson tells how her 17-month-old son, Riley, was shut in an overhead compartment by a Virgin Blue flight attendant.

Natalie Williamson and her son, Riley.

Virgin claims, “Ms Williamson’s husband was playing a peek-a-boo game with Riley involving the overhead compartment when the flight attendant joined in.”

The flight attendant picked up Riley, placed him in the compartment, and then closed it.

A devastated Williamson said Riley was “locked in the compartment for up to 10 seconds in complete darkness.”

She also said that Riley now suffers from anxiety and withdrawal and has seen several specialists.

Virgin apologized for the situation and has fired the flight attendant.  They also gave Williamson three passes for free flights.

“The safety of our guests is our top priority and we do not tolerate any breaches of this,” a spokeswoman for Virgin said.
