With all of the governmental chaos Egypt is currently experiencing, hotel proprietors are feeling the impact on the tourism industry.
An article by USA Today
states that just one week into the chaos, the industry is already “37% below the comparable period one year ago.” The hotel proprietors are well aware that tourists will be re-considering their trips to Egypt and the surrounding areas. Christopher Hartley, CEO of the Global Hotel, akowledges “even if Egypt stabilizes quickly, the damage is done.” In the article, Hartley goes on to say:
“Even if Egypt’s politics stabilize quickly, the mass uprising against strongman Hosni Mubarak flashed across front pages and TV news worldwide for days “will have a ripple affect on people’s perceptions” of the entire region.”
Egyptian proprietors are worried that this ripple affect will keep prospective tourists from experiencing all that the Middle East-Africa’s tourism industry has to offer.

Often the effects of civil unrest are felt by the tourism industry the most. It will take Egypt some good time to recover from the shocks of the Democratic uprisings and it will necessitate that the government does more advertisements on international fronts to improve the image of Egypt tourism.
