Dr. Radhika Gajjala, Fulbright Norway recipient for 2015-2016
Dr. Radhika Gajjala, Professor in Communication Department and the American Culture Program at BGSU will be heading Norway (University of Bergen) on Fulbright Professorship for the AY 2015-2-16. During her stay there she will be working on her research project on “Crafting Post-coloniality and Critical Digital Humanities Research (#DHCRIT)” for which she will conduct ethnographic research on two intersecting projects. One looks at mobile technologies and diasporic South Asians and the other looks at fiber/handcrafting communities and their use of digital technologies globally. She will bring these two topics together in the context of Postcolonial Science and Technology studies and Digital Media/Cultures Research. She will also be co-teaching courses offered through University of Bergen on topics such as Digital Culture, Information Society, History and Philosophy of Computer Technologies, and Gender and Game Studies.

The Department of Communication seeks applicants for part-time adjunct teaching positions
The Department of Communication at Bowling Green State University (http://www.bgsu.edu/departments/comm/) seeks strong applicants for part-time teaching assignments for the 2015-16 academic year. Potential teaching assignments at the undergraduate level are in the areas of interpersonal communication, rhetorical criticism, organizational communication, and political communication. Starting date is August 2015 or January 2016. Candidates with a master’s degree in communication preferred but those with a graduate degree in a communication-related field will be considered. Evidence of successful teaching at the collegiate level is preferred.
Applicants should submit: 1) letter of application, 2) resume and 3) two current original letters of reference signed and includes; name, address and phone number. Finalists will be required to submit official transcripts indicating highest degree. Finalists are also required to authorize and pass a background investigation prior to an offer of employment.
Unless they request otherwise, qualified applicants will also be considered for future part-time employment opportunities that may arise.

COMM student Drew Ashby-King receives the Board of Trustees’ Leadership Scholarship
Drew Ashby-King, an Honors student who is majoring in communication, was selected to receive one of the 2015-2016 Board of Trustees’ Leadership Scholarships. This highly competitive award recognizes students with a strong record of academic excellence, leadership, and professionalism. From his work on the BG4Unity Service-Learning Project to his leadership roles as a member of the Department of Communication, the Honors College, BGSU’s nationally ranked Cheerleading Team, and BGSU’s Residence Life staff, Drew is an engaged and active member of BGSU’s community.

Valerie Skorupski receives a CURS Grant
Congrats to Valerie Skorupski, who was awarded a $2500 summer grant from the Center for Undergraduate Research and Scholarship (CURS). Valerie will work with her faculty mentor, Dr. Lisa Hanasono, on several research projects related to social media activism and community-building.
School of Media and Communication and the Department of Communication Scholarship and Awards Ceremony
Each spring, scholarships and awards are earned by communication students, recognizing dedication and excellence within the field. Many of these awards are made available through the generosity of our alumni and gifts to foundation accounts.
This year’s scholarship and awards banquet will be held on Friday, March 27, 2015. The ceremony will begin with a school-wide reception at 3:30pm in 228 BTSU followed by the graduate student award ceremony from 4:00-4:30pm. At about 4:30pm we will meet in 201 BTSU for the Department of Communication award ceremony.

Dr. Lisa Hanasono is to Receive Outstanding New Teacher Award
Please help us congratulate Dr. Lisa Hanasono for winning this year’s Central States Communication Association (CSCA) Outstanding New Teacher Award. The committee selected Dr. Hanasono after carefully considering many qualified candidates for this award. The awards committee was impressed with Dr. Hanasono’s record of teaching. They said “It’s clear your students are lucky to have you!”
Dr. Lisa Hanasono will be officially recognized at the Awards Luncheon at this year’s CSCA conference.
