A picture of me near old campus last semester.

Hi, my name is Alissa Widman. I’m a junior print journalism major and sociology minor at Bowling Green State University from Sandusky, Ohio. (You may know it as “Cedar Point, Ohio.”) I hope to someday work as a newspaper reporter.

I interned this past summer for The Sandusky Register, the Associated Press’ best division III Ohio newspaper for four straight years. I was the schools reporter and was responsible for covering several local school districts and board of education meetings.

I currently work as managing editor for The BG News, the University’s independent student newspaper. The paper prints every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The staff recently launched a new website and has been very busy uploading content and transitioning into a “web-first” mentality. I continue to cover the faculty beat, reporting on Faculty Senate and Board of Trustees meetings, as well as faculty unionization issues.

I also freelance with a new Sandusky-based health magazine that is launching its first issue this week.

Blogging interests me very much. I regularly update a blog about BGSU dorm life, called Residential Warrior, through Blogger. I also regularly use Facebook and Twitter, both for personal and professional use.

Hi and Hello.  Allow myself to introduce…myself.  I’m Chris Cournan- a 20 year old junior from Clarence, NY (which is about 20 minutes outside of Buffalo.)  I’m a Sports Management major with a minor in Broadcast Journalism.  I recently took over as the interim President for my fraternity, Delta Tau Delta.  I enjoy playing all sorts of different sports and participating in intramurals with my fraternity.  I’ve played soccer my entire life and even played a little bit of recreational league ice hockey during my junior and senior years of high school.  Being from Buffalo, I’m a huge fan of the Buffalo Bills and the Buffalo Sabres.  I’m also a big fan of every single BG sports team but I especially enjoy attending our hockey games the most. Also, through my work with the BG Radio Sports Organization, I broadcast home hockey games for the Falcons that can be heard on 88.1 fm, WBGU.

In terms of work experience, for the past 3 summers I’ve worked full time at the Clarence Highway Department which involved digging ditches, paving roads, fixing street signs and overall road maintenance. Before that, I held odd jobs throughout my junior and senior years.  Well, that is all so I’ll see everyone in class.

Hello everyone. I’m David Clarkson and I’m a senior set to graduate in the spring (fingers crossed). All throughout high school I wanted to be a sports writer but college taught me I simply do not have the passion to become a journalist. That’s why I recently changed my major to Communications with a Journalism minor. The holdover from my major change is my love for writing. I can write papers all day long and I write fiction and poetry in my spare time for fun.

After school I hope to become involved in social networking. I think twitter is one of the most powerful forces in the world when properly utilized. If you want to get to know me follow me @diabolicaldavid or add me on Facebook. The picture below is me and my girlfriend celebrating our one year anniversary this summer.

My name is Bryan Warrick and I am a Print Journalism Major and a History minor. I am a fifth year senior who spent two years going to Schoolcraft College before transferring to BGSU. I am from Westland, Michigan, just outside Detroit. I am a huge Detroit Tigers and Red Wings fan. I’m also a Michigan fan.

I spent a year covering the OHL team Plymouth Whalers for the local paper. I wrote for the BG NEws and the Key Magazine for two years. I am now working an internship, covering high school sports for TRACSports.org. My offical position in the website is Content Manager, as I organize all the stats and stories. I also write a lot of the stories for the site.

I play baseball and hockey. I also like to write short fiction stories and the occasion longer story. I work out a lot and really enjoy being active, including hiking, kayaking and camping. I’m also trying to learn how to play the guitar, but at the moment all i can play is “Ode to Joy” and “When the Saints go marching in.” But I’m getting there. I also really like to travel and go on road trips.

Hello! My name is Allison Dunn and I am from Sylvania, Ohio. I am a senior print journalism major with a minor in political science. I started my undergraduate education at the University of Dayton. I was absolutely in love with the school and I had an amazing group of friends, but I didn’t feel like I was getting the kind of journalism education I needed. When I was at UD, I worked as a communication assistant for enrollment management. I designed and wrote postcards, pamphlets, letters, etc. for prospective UD students.

I transferred to Bowling Green before my junior year and I feel like my education is more focused, which is what I wanted.

I interned with the Bluffton News in fall 2010. The editors were both May 2010 Bowling Green graduates, so we had a lot in common. Even though the Bluffon News was a weekly paper, I learned a lot because it is such a small town and people rely so heavily on the newspaper for information. I worked with some very friendly people, and some not so friendly people, who expected me to know everything about Bluffton. This was a good internship to start out with because it helped me learn how to work with people and how to handle different situations.

In the spring of 2011, I interned with the BGSU Office of Marketing and Communications. I wrote a variety of press releases and stories for the office. My story about the BGSU Green Fund made the front page of the Toledo Blade’s Campus Connection.

I am still writing for the Office of Marketing and Communications and I’m currently working on my next Toledo Blade Campus Connection story (hopefully another front page?)

When I graduate in May, I would like to do some business communication. I always wanted to work for a newspaper, but after working for the Office of Marketing and Communications, I think I would like to work in a corporate industry. I would also like to go back to school for my master’s degree in public administration. Eventually, I would like to work in Washington, but I’m not sure what I want to do yet.

I’m looking forward to this class!

My name is Tyler Strittmatter and I am a print Journalism major in my Senior year at BG. I am from Ridgefield, CT which is about 620 miles away from Bowling Green and about a 10 hour drive. I came to BG because it was cheap, they had a lot of majors, I like the Mid-West feel and they had a chapter of an organization I am involved in called Young Life. It is basically a mentorship group to get to know high school kids and help discuss any struggles they may have.
My goal is to be involved in any way that I can with either music or writing. The best way that I see the two of these things coinciding is working for publications like Rolling Stone or Spin. I consider myself a student of music and hope to know everything about how it is created, produced and packaged.
I play guitar and have a blog about guitar related topics called Shredding 6 Strings. Maybe I am alone in this fact but, I want to do something that I love so that I do not have to think of it as a job. When I say this I mean I would rather try a million times to succeed at something great and fail every time than settle for one stable mediocre job which I complain about to friends and family. I have enough people in my life who are un-happy with their current situation who do nothing but complain and never take any risks. So thanks to them, I am going to.

Hey Everyone 🙂 My name is Ashley Warren. I’m a junior, almost a senior and a journalism major. I am from Vickery, Ohio, about 45 minutes away from BG and close to Castalia, Ohio. I have always wanted to be Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex & the City; writing for a magazine. Since then, Journalism was to be my career. I am a huge Dallas Cowboys fan, and I have been since the first time I watched football on t.v. I also love music. I love writing my own songs, playing them on my guitar, going to concerts, writing about bands, and listening to them! I can be the biggest tomboy, watching football, 4wheeling, fishing and eating, but I love my clothes, purses, shoes & accessories. I have one boxer named, Witten, and two cats who act like complete humans. I like doing every activity outdoors possible. I am extremely considerate of others, and have a great personality. I don’t judge anybody, I absolutely cannot. I’m a huge Ashton Kutcher and Johnny Depp fan. I have been to over 32 states, and my favorite was New York, New York. I’m a great listener and awesome to have around  🙂

Hi everyone!

My name is Alexis McDaniel. Im a junior majoring in Public Relations and minoring in History. I am from Lima, Ohio which is about an hour south of BG. I grew up on a farm and took pigs to my county fair for 7 years. I have a little brother who just started his freshman year here at BGSU. When im not working at Frickers or doing homework, I love to hang out with my friends, watch movies and read!

My name is Ryan Satkowiak, and I am a junior print journalism major from Fresno, Calif. (it’s a long story). I have been writing for the BG News since September of my freshman year, almost exclusively as a sportswriter. I currently serve as the BG News’ sports editor.

I basically figured out my freshman year of high school that I wanted to write about sports because I love sports, and I didn’t want to get stuck doing a boring 8-5 Monday-Friday job. (I’ve had one “real” job in my life. A file clerk at a law office, and it sucked). Working with the paper has helped me meet great people and develop good connections. The opportunities I’ve had from working with the BG News have also been awesome. Below is a picture of me and former NHL all-star and BG alumni Rob Blake, who I got to meet when he came back to campus last year.

Michael Morris is my name and school my game. I am a Jr. majoring in Sport Management with a minor in Journalism.  I am from McComb, OH.  I have worked for the BGSU athletic communications office in the past and I currently work for the football team.  My goals are to become a football coach at the college level in the future.  Journalism is not something I am excited about however I thought it would be something I could do with sports because thats the only thing I am even close to being good at writing about.
