Sport Literacy.

For this approach/topic I think my ideal reader is someone with extensive sports knowledge and has a strong relationship and or passion for sports. This will allow them to enter the reading experience with a sense of “commonness” with me. This reader believes that the world of sports has grown dramatically and his/her too knowledge of the world of sports has increased due to repetitive interaction with the games.

Computer literacy

The ideal reader to this approach/topic will be someone who is very computer literate and has a strong passion for computers and technology. This reader will also bring a sense of commonness to the reader experience. This reader believes that a lot of our communication in the 21st century has to do with computers and technology. This reader’s attitude is that being literate also includes knowing how to communicate via computers and technology.

Driving Literacy

The ideal reader to this approach/topic will be someone who feels that they have over time increased their driving skills because of using literacy acts. This reader will bring to the reading experience, the ability to relate to the material.  This reader believes that in order to be a good driver one has be literate of driving signs, signals, and underlying language.

Music Literacy

The idea reader for this approach/topic is a fan of music. This reader brings diversity to the reading experience because of a broad taste in music. This reader believes that being literate in music allows you to appreciate different types of music as well as understand the musical progression. This reader’s attitude is that music is essential and the ltieracy acts used to engage with music are important as well.

Visual Literacy

I believe the ideal reader for this approach would be someone who only has the ability to see and not hear. This reader will bring a different type of appreciation for this type of literacy that is not shown by those who can also hear what they see. This reader believes seeing is being literate and anything else is created for a desired meaning.

5 Viable Topics for Literacy Narrative

Posted by jross in English 207  Tagged

1.) Sports Literacy – How i’ve become literate in the sporting world over time. I think this would be a good story to tell because although sports were introduced to me when I was very young, since then my understanding of sports has blossomed into a lot more than the basic concept of the game(s).

2.) Computer Literacy – How my literacies in computers and technology play a big role in my dailty life, more specifically the ways in which I communicate I honestly think this type of literacy will be the easiest to narrate because a good portion of my daily communication as well as my daily “leisure” activities are done via computer and/or technology.

3.) Driving Literacy – How being literate and having literacies help me perform better on the road. I think this could be a good “over time” story to present. From riding with with moms, starting driver’s ed., getting my temporary license, getting my actual license, my first speeding ticket, to my first accident. I believe there is plenty to tell here about how my literacies have played a big role in my driving.

4.) Music Literacy – How music literacy plays an important role in my life. I also believe this could be a good story. I actually was thinking to tell a story of going to one of my favorite author’s concert. and how my literacies played a huge tole in planning for the concert as well as enjoying it!

5.) Visual Literacy – How being visually literate allows me to interpret much of the things we encounter in life on a daily basis. I think I could find a good story to tell about an event.

6.) Vocal Literacy – For this literacy I was thinking more on the lines of explaining how my speaking abilities have increased over time.

What is a Narrative?

Posted by jross in English 207  Tagged

According to Dictionary.com a Narrrative is “a story or account of events, experiences, or the like, whether true or fictitious.”

I believe the purpose of a Narrative is to tell a story, give an account of an event, and/or share an idea. I think narratives make stories easier to understnad, and in the past reading narratives have given me a better grasp on the writer’s intentions. My most recent experience with narratives were in class looking at examples as well as writing/creating a narrative for our visual narrative assignment.
