Summary: From the Émile Zola novel “La Bête Humaine” comes a story of deep tragedy. Jacques (Jean Gabin) comes from a long line of alcoholics, and though he abstains from the drink himself, he cannot escape another curse his family has passed down to him – the urge, the madness, to kill. Jacques is a railroad engineer, and he falls in love with a young woman (Simone Simon) who is already married. His happiness with her is short lived, but not because of her marriage to another man. In one of Jacques’ cursed and sudden attacks of rage, he murders her. What follows is story of the heights of heartbreak and the depths of simplicity.
