Summary: Disc 1: “Pot ‘o Gold”, 1941 (87 min.) : Based on a popular radio money giveaway show of the same name, Pot o’ Gold revolves around the popular big band Horace Heidt and His Thirty Musical Knights and their struggle for their big break. “Made for Each Other”, 1939 (85 min.) : Beautiful Carole Lombard and likeable James Stewart are Jane and John Mason, a couple who meet, fall madly in love, marry, and quickly have a baby. But while they–and the audience–are confident that they are meant for each other, life intercedes and the couple must meet with disapproving in-laws, job stress, financial challenges and, finally, a devastating illness.
Disc 2: “Penny Serenade”, 1941 (125 min.) : A classic film about love, marriage and parenthood. Dunne and Grant are worldly sophisticates who marry and adopt a child, while also trying to run a newspaper. The couple’s happiness turns into tragedy that brings their marriage to the point of collapse. “Amazing Adventure” (aka “The Amazing Quest of Ernest Bliss”), 1936 (ca. 70 min.) : A comedy adventure story of Ernest Bliss, a young millionaire, who can’t bear so much wealth. The suggested cure is that he go away for a year and earn his own living — a challenge which Ernest accepts.
