Summary: Asked to imagine the last day of the 20th century in his own country, the filmmaker produced a “fictional documentary” of daily life in Sokolo, his father’s village in Mali. Leisurely paced, vignettes of people’s lives are interwoven with readings from the poet Aimé Césaire and the songs of Malian tenor Salif Keita. Sokolo, still struggling with the technology of the 20th century, still living in traditional patterns, will also enter the 21st century, with its own desires and needs.
