Chapters: Bulldog Drummond escapes (1937, 67 min.) — The first in Paramount’s “Bulldog Drummond” series, Bulldog Drummond Escapes stars Ray Milland as the interminable Hugh “Bulldog” Drummond, who in this episode comes to the rescue of lovely heiress Phyllis Clavering (Heather Angel). A villainous, so-called friend of the family (Porter Hall), who hopes to get his greedy hands on Phyllis’s inheritance, has kidnapped her. But even though Drummond’s intention is to rescue Phyllis, he winds up being the one in need of rescue.
Bulldog Drummond comes back (1937, 119 min.) — Once again, just as he is about to marry long-time love interest Phyllis Clavering (Louise Campbell), super sleuth Bulldog Drummond’s (John Howard) attentions are diverted to a late-breaking case. Several mysterious assassinations have been committed, and when Drummond looks into the rash of murders, he uncovers the motive—the thievery of synthetic diamonds.
Bulldog Drummond’s Peril (1938, 77 min.) — In this second installment in the “Bulldog Drummond” thrillers, Hugh “Bulldog” Drummond (John Howard) is on the verge of finally wedding main squeeze Phyllis Clavering (Louise Campbell), when she is mysteriously kidnapped. The culprits are a man (Mikhail Valdin, J. Carrol Naish) and his sister (Erena Soldanis, Helen Freeman), who are wanted in the murder of a wealthy American. Despite the warning that Drummond may be their next victim, he immediately sets out to catch the vile duo and save his vulnerable fiancée.
British intelligence (1940, 62 min.) — British Intelligence, a mystery film about espionage and war, stars Boris Karloff as Valder, the baleful butler of a British politician who may actually be a German spy. It is equally unclear if the woman sent to live with the cabinet minister’s family, Helene Von Lorbeer (Margaret Lindsay), is also in the employ of the enemy. The mystery deepens as it becomes increasingly difficult to discern the good guys from bad, until the truth is finally revealed at the film’s climax, which occurs during a German Zepplin raid of London.
