Chapters: Two Weeks to Live (1943, 76 min.) — In this madcap comedy of hilarious circumstances, Lum Edwards (Chester Lauck) and Abner Peabody (Norris Goff), owners of the Jot-Em-Down general store in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, are on their way to Chicago to claim Abner’s inheritance. But instead of coming into any money, Abner learns he is responsible for the deceased’s debts. Required to take a physical exam, the doctor mistakenly tells Abner he has only two weeks to live. Before Abner bites the big one, the two bumbling heroes accidentally get involved with an organization of Nazi agents, among other silly stunts, in an attempt to pay what is owed on the inheritance.
The Bashful Bachelor (1942, 76 min.) — In the second installment in the Lum ‘N’ Abner film series, the wacky duo devises a preposterous plot for Abner (Norris Goff) to impress an available middle-aged woman (ZaSu Pitts) by making Abner out to be a hero. Lum (Chester Lauck) reluctantly agrees to be saved in a series of staged accidents by Abner because Abner is still sore that he swapped their delivery car for a racehorse. But instead of getting himself out of hot water with Abner, Lum gets himself in deeper when he delivers Abner’s marriage proposal to the wrong woman! The rest is silly mayhem as the pair scramble to undo the confused mess they’ve made.
So This is Washington (1942, 62 min.) — Lum (Chester Lauck) and Abner (Norris Goff), small town general store owners from Pine Bluff, Arkansas, are on their way to Washington D.C. to offer their invention of synthetic rubber to the U.S. Government. When Lum and Abner arrive at the nation’s capital, they learn there’s no room at the inn due to a war-time housing shortage, and they must make do with the city’s available park benches. Shortly after becoming temporarily homeless, the hilarious twosome is reduced to grisly backwoods types who freely impart their prudent advice upon anyone and everyone who’ll listen!
Dreaming Out Loud (1940, 65 min.) — Lum (Chester Lauck) and Abner’s (Norris Goff) general store is the town hub, and because of this, they know all of the local gossip. Located within the general store is Pine Bluff’s post office, where Alice (Frances Langford) works as the postmistress. Alice wants to marry the local physician’s son Kenneth, but her aunt is feuding with the doctor and resolutely forbids the marriage. Meanwhile, a young girl is tragically killed in a hit and run accident that has yet to be resolved. With so much going on in Pine Bluff, it’s up to do-gooders Lum and Abner to make things right again.
