Timothy Cloeter conducts Festival Chorus in Malaysia

Tim Cloeter, Assistant Professor of Choral Music, conducted a chorus of 370 high school students at the Youth Symposium of the 13th Annual Malaysian Choral Eisteddfod in Kuala Lumpur on June 13-14.  Coming together from all across their country, the students participated in massed chorus rehearsals and individual choir coaching sessions led by Cloeter that culminated in a concert of nine high school choirs and the massed chorus.  While in Kuala Lumpur, Cloeter also led masterclasses at two higher education institutions: the Malaysian Institute of Art and the University of Malaysia.

CMA mourns the loss of Gunther Schuller

The College of Musical Arts mourns the death of Gunther Schuller, composer, conductor, performer, author and teacher. He died on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at the age of 89. He was a frequent guest on the BGSU campus having received an Honorary Doctorate and serving as the special guest of the annual New Music Festival.

David Bixler live with Grammy-Winner Arturo O’Farrill

Director of Jazz Studies and part of the ensemble to win at the 15th Latin Grammy Awards, David Bixler, alto saxophone, will perform this week with Arturo O’Farrill, piano; Heather Martin Bixler,  violin; Carlo De Rosa, bass; and Vince Cherico, drums and cymbals.

The performances will take place June 18th and 19th at The Falcon in Marlboro, NY and The Deer Head Inn in Delaware Water Gap, PA.

 

 

 

BGSU Trumpets Find Success at ITG 2015

Marcus Flores and Thomas Darlington, students of Charles Saenz, both attended and competed at this years International Trumpet Guild. ITG celebrated their 40th anniversary  in Columbus, OH which drew amateur and professional trumpet players from around the world to watch lectures, listen to concerts, and compete.

Marcus Flores competed in the International Trumpet Guild Solo Competition and took home the top prize with Bloch Proclamation and Böhme Concerto in F Minor. the judges were Rex Richardson, Judith Saxton, and Jens Lindemann.

Thomas Darlington competed in the Trumpet Orchestral Excerpt Competition and took third place.

 

Cassie Utt, BGSU ’13, featured in Washington Post

Cassie Utt was featured in an article in the Washington Post on June 3, 2015.  She will be traveling the world in the coming year, living for a month in each of about 12 different cities around the globe, for her job with Eaton Corporation, as part of their Remote Year program.  Participation in the program is highly selective.  See the link to article for more details.
