6 Sentenced Concepts

1. A small boy tries to save the life of his best friend, who happens to be a stuffed bear. His toy is simply randomly falling apart, due to all the hard times it has been through with the boy. The boy is sitting there as the beat keeps losing limbs and he tries to fix him with all that he can. Some of these methods might be by using like elmers glue, popsicle sticks, tape, and bandaids. The bear, now covered with barely and bear showing, makes the boy really sad because now his teddy bear is almost ruined. In the end, the boys mother sews it back together and although it still looks raggity, it looks better than all that the boy had done.

2. A little girl is very lonely and only wants someone else to hang out with. As she walks through the forest, she finds a strange seed that does not look like a seed, considering it closer to being star-shaped. Her mother always spoke of wishing on stars so she picks it up and whispers to it. As she places it into the ground, she close her eyes and concentrates her hardest. Over the past few years, as the tree grows, and the girl grows too, the girl continues to visit and watch it grow, with little star shapes coming off the branches. At the end, the girl visits with a friend and we see that one star shape had her wish on it, “to have a friend”. The star then disappears.

I really like story #2. This story has more of a meaning behind it and more value to the idea “what’s the moral of the story”. The first story has a lot of obvious conflict, but what are the conflicts in the second one. Maybe she starts to dig to plant it and she finds the root of a tree and can’t plant it there, maybe then she goes to plant it somewhere else and another character yells to get out of their yard. Also, are you going to show where she meets her friend that helps her accomplish her wish? Love the concept work on the details a little more.

I think the first has good comedic value, although it lacks a “moral to the story.” Unless it’s “Just have mom do it for you.” The second one is very interesting. However, conveying a notion such as the character’s mother telling her about wishing on stars would b hard without some random narrator just outright saying it. Also, doing it over a timespan could involve making multiple character models. You might want to think about that if you go with #2.

You have two very good ideas there, and with some work either would be great for your animation. I agree with Ronnie in that the first is funny, but lacks a moral, make sure that one of the ones you re-work. Idea 2 is also very good, I would love to see how you animate the girl and the tree both growing older. From the sounds of it, both are more than doable in the time frame.
