Song

For this project we were assigned a song to pick from that many that have been created over the years, and create a CD insert for that particular song. After doing some research I have decided to do mine on The Times Are A-Changin by Bob Dylan. Bob Dylan being one of my favorite artists, I feel that this will work in my favor as I have listened to this man’s music more than any other artists throughout my entire life.

Message Behind the Song

The underlying message behind The Times Are A-Changin is very simple. We all live our lives day by day, and everyday is different. Sometimes we will feel great when we wake up and sometime we will feel sad. Also things change in this world on a daily basis, from the horrible hurricanes we witness to the crazy tornadoes that ravage our towns. This is showing us that we are living in constant change. Not only do these things cause change, we have also gone through times in American history where you witness our society changing. Times like these show us that history is in the making, and with history being created daily you see change on a daily basis.

Project Idea

For my final piece I have decided to go with something that visually hows the changes of certain things throughout history. Like the change of hair styles throughout the years, the change of car logos, and the change of many different items. i feel this will fit well with the song because it is about the change in anything.

For my final designed piece I am going to go witht he sketch that has all the different objects that have changed throughout history. I just might possible make the whole design a collage of a bunch of different photos that blend into one final piece. If that doesn’t work out I am going to have them the way they look in my final sketch. For each of the different items I will have 4 different photos, of an object or things that has changed throughout the years.

Research

After looking up many of the different movie posters and DVD covers for “The Shining,” I have come to realize that they kept them very simple. One of the main things that is in every poster is Jack Nicholson. In this film he loses his mind due to severe isolation and tries to murder his family. His little boy in this film has something called the shining where he can see things that aren’t in the present. This is passed down from generation to generation, and Jack Nicholson passed it on to his son. So this is going to be one of the key aspects that I am going to include in my poster and DVD cover.

Green Eggs and Ham

One of my all time favorite books to read as a child was the classic Green Eggs and Ham by Doctor Seuss. The book includes two characters one who loves green eggs and ham, and one that doesn’t. The one character refuses to eat the green eggs and ham, while the other is trying to force him into trying actually trying them out for once. At the end the man who refuses, finally tries the green eggs and ham. He then learns that he actually loves green eggs and ham.

Theme

The overall theme throughout this book is to try new things. Don’t get stuck in your little box and not let anyone or anything enter. Experiencing new things is a fun and enjoyable thing.

For this design I am going to have an egg and a piece of ham within the poster. Using photoshop I am going to change the colors of these to make them look somewhat realistic, so they actually look like green eggs and ham. There will be a line on the poster dealing with the theme of the story, and in the background I am going to find the main character from the book, and have him saying, would you like some green get and ham.

For this assignment i used a lot of selection tools to complete. I selected the car to change its color, by using one of the adjustments. Cut parts from the police car and placed them into the original photo and risized and made adjustments to them as well.

First turned the photo to grayscale and then used the clone stamp tool, and burn and dodge tool.

For this project I have decided to do an ad for Nature Valley. Have always been a huge fan of there products, and feel this will this company will suit this assignment very well.

Previous Advertisements

As you can see when nature valley makes an ad for their products it usually involves displaying nature in one way or another. I really like these ads because it shows you how they are really into making products that come completely from mother nature. The only thing I really don’t like about some of these ads is it doesn’t show all the products that they create. There is usually only one granola bar that they have in each ad, when they should include everything that they make.

Many of the competitors try to create ads that are kind of similar, but just a little different. The only difference that they have though, include that they don’t use the amounts of sugar and syrup that Nature Valley uses. In all honesty though it’s still a granola bar, so people will have there preferences.

My Ad

For my ad I am going to include many of the products they make, by using the photos below.

I am going to cut these pictures out of the file and then place them into this background.

Since this would probably be the easiest thing to do I am going to also place a few animals into the background as well, just to give myself a little bit more of a challenge.

I also want to include a grizzly bear within the background I just haven’t found the picture that I am going to use yet.

For straitening this image i used the the ruler tool within Adobe PhotoShop CS5. This tool allows you to take a photo that is not level and make it so it is level. Once importing these images I just went to the BGSU blog site and created a new category, and uploaded the photos using the insert and upload tabs within the BGSU blog site.

For these three images I used the crop perspective tool that is available in Photoshop. Basically you use the crop tool and once you have your box on the image click the perspective button at the top and it will let you manually crop the image in any way you want to.

For this I used the Quick selection tool, lasso, and quick selection tool. Then placed the two different selections into a different background.
