Stand with Planned Parenthood

The House of Representatives passed a measure Friday that will cut all federal funding for Planned Parenthood in a 240-185 vote. The republican dominated congress has essentially declared war on one of the largest and most successful women’s health organizations in the nation. This bill stops Planned Parenthood from receiving 330 million dollars for the services they provide. It never ceases to amaze me what lengths some republicans will do to protect “morality.” The ironic thing is that eliminating funding for Planned Parenthood will not curb abortions, but increase them.

Supporters of this bill are too busy trying to be morality crusaders that they did not do their homework. Federal law prevents Planned Parenthood from receiving any government funds for the purpose of abortions. So essentially what this bill does is  take away all funds to provide for family planning, medical and preventive services for women that so desperately need them.

Planned Parenthood provides contraception to women who may not have other ways of accessing any. Eliminating Planned Parenthood funds will hurt millions of women who cannot afford to get annual tests for cancer or tested for life changing sexually transmitted diseases like AIDS. Women that can’t afford to have another child either for financial or medical reasons.

Backing  millions of woman into a corner because you don’t agree with their incredibly personal decisions is just plain wrong.  These same woman in a desperate attempt to find some means of making the right decision for their life will be forced to go to back door abortion clinics instead of the clean ones offered by Planned Parenthood.

So congratulations to the morality police in fighting so bravely for your cause. If your going to play Superman at least know who you are saving.
