ACRL 2013 call — Cyber Zed Shed (posters proposals due same date)

Are you a tech savvy librarian using new technologies in innovative ways to help your students and faculty? Adapting existing technologies to reach user needs? Here is an opportunity to share your innovations with your colleagues, library administrators, and others at ACRL 2013 in Indianapolis. The Cyber Zed Shed Committee is looking for proposals that document technology-related innovations in every area of the library. Cyber Zed Shed presentations provide an opportunity to share ideas that can inspire your colleagues to incorporate a new technology in their library or find a new application for an existing technology to address new and old problems in various library environments:
• teaching in a classroom
• providing answers to questions from patrons
• acquiring, cataloging, processing or preserving materials
• providing other library services
Cyber Zed Shed presentations are 20 minutes, with 15 minutes to present a demonstration, and five additional minutes for audience questions. Presentations should document technology-related innovations in academic and research libraries. A computer, data projector, screen, microphone, and stage will be provided. You will be responsible for bringing all other equipment required for your demonstration, except as agreed to in advance.

We invite you to submit your most innovative proposals. Submissions are due by November 9, 2013 and may be submitted via the online form available in the Call for Participation.

CFP for “Critical Information Literacy in the Social Sciences” (Due Sep 7)

Behavioral & Social Sciences Librarian is now accepting manuscripts for an issue focusing on “Critical Information Literacy in the Social Sciences” to be published as volume 32(1). The submission deadline is September 7, 2012.

We welcome the following topics (relevant to Behavioral & Social Science
– discussion/analyses of critical information literacy methods/practices
– assessment of impact of critical information literacy on student learning
– impact of critical information literacy on collection development , reference services or other areas of library work

The Journal of Librarianship and Scholarly Communication provides a focused forum for library practitioners to share ideas, strategies, research and pragmatic explorations of library-led initiatives related to such areas as institutional repository and digital collection management, library publishing/hosting services and authors’ rights advocacy efforts. Michigan ACRL chapter CFP: Ann Arbor

The Michigan Library Association invites program proposals for Academic Libraries 2012: Advancing Value, the association’s third annual two-day event highlighting trends and issues relating to academic libraries, to be held May 10-11, 2012 in Ann Arbor, MI at the Sheraton Ann Arbor Hotel. This conference will feature Megan Oakleaf, who will be presenting a keynote and leading a workshop.

The Academic Libraries 2012 Work Group seeks a variety of proposals that will address topics representing the wide range of professional responsibilities found in academic libraries and those that will introduce new ideas or solutions to the challenges currently facing academic libraries. We encourage broad participation from librarians, staff and administrators from all types of academic libraries (including but not limited to public universities, private colleges, and community colleges).

Please submit your program proposal by no later than **November 30, 2011**. The Academic Libraries 2012 Work Group will notify proposal contacts of the status of their submission by February 15, 2012.

Academic librarians are increasingly instructing targeted groups within the academic environment. Such groups include freshman learning communities, international students, graduate students, and faculty. Each of these groups is far from homogenous because of the diversity of their expectations of libraries and their information-seeking experiences. Even into the twenty-first century, many faculty members, for example, are reluctant to use electronic resources. How can we develop instruction programs that will address the shared needs of such groups and the diverse needs of individuals? What assessment tools are available to measure the success of such programs? How can we identify constituencies being underserved? Manuscripts are sought that describe successful (and even unsuccessful) approaches to information literacy for targeted groups and/or diverse populations in higher education. Manuscripts are also sought that report on quantitative or qualitative evaluations of the impact of information literacy programs, courses, and components of courses.
