Dr. Sung-Yeon Park’s essay “Mediated intergroup contact: Concept explication, synthesis, and application” is accepted for publication in “Mass Communication & Society.” The article is based on her earlier ICA Top paper (2009) and elaborates the concept of mediated intergroup contact by synthesizing media stereotype research and intergroup contact theory in social psychology.

2010 Fall TCOM development fund announcement
This fund is made available to qualified Telecommunication majors to aid them with their professional development activities and facilitate sharing of knowledge gained from these activities. An applicant can request up to $400 and thus the number of total recipients may vary depending on the amount awarded to individual students.

Dr. Gi Woong Yun to serve on editorial advisory board for the Asian Journal of Communication
Dr. Gi Woong Yun has been asked to serve on the editorial advisory board for the Asian Journal of Communication. Launched in 1990, AJC is jointly run by the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and the Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC). It is published by Taylor & Francis, which handles its production and marketing.
AJC is a refereed international publication that provides a venue for high-quality communication scholarship. It focuses on the systems and processes of communication in the Asia-Pacific region and Asian communities around the world. AJC brings to its readers the latest, broadest and most important findings in Asian communication research. It follows a rigorous procedure of double-blind peer review to maintain its high standard of scholarship. The journal has been listed in the Thomson Reuters Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) since 2008. It is the only communication journal from Asia that has been included in the index.
Kodak’s latest “Higher Definition” presentation – Oct 4th. 105 Hanna Hall from 10:30 a.m.- 12:00 p.m
Mr. Jose Cardenas, lecturer of the TCOM department who is on leave this year, organized this one-day presentation on October 4 Monday in conjunction with the BG Reel Productions and the TCOM Student Association, will start off at the Gish, 105 Hanna Hall from 10:30 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. with discussions on current trends as well as look into the future of high definition visual acquisition.
Cost factors, speed, reliability, and quality will be addressed looking into Kodak’s latest “Higher Definition” stock.
With technology changing at an exponential rate – what is a good equipment investment?
There will be a hands-on portion In the afternoon, this is scheduled at South Hall’s Film Studio on 4th floor (weather permitting we may do this outside). The day will conclude at 018 West Hall with the total post work-flow in High Definition. Areas discussed will include equipment investment, time, lab, total cost factors and final product delivery not only domestic, but international requirements as well.
There will also be a variety of “give-aways” throughout the day with opportunities to network and ask questions regarding production work flow
The guests will be: Scott Stevens from Kodak and Bill Pivetta from First Avenue Films Inc.

Details: Jim Copper, the President of Cooper-Smith Agency in Toledo, will visit TCOM 4670 Advertising Principles and Practices to talk to the students. He will be accompanied by his three colleagues from the agency, two of whom are recent BGSU graduates (08 and 09 each). Cooper-Smith agency is a highly successful full service advertising agency located in Toledo and serving both national and local advertisers. The guest lecture is open to everyone.

The Department of Telecommunications, School of Media and Communication, Bowling Green State University, is inviting applications for a one-year full-time instructor position in television/video production for 2010-2011 academic year. This position is not renewable. The course load is four courses per semester. The position will be required to teach Video I: Fundamentals of Video Production, Video II Field Production and Editing Fundamentals, and Introductory course in Mass Media. In addition to teaching courses, the instructor will advise a student media organization called BG Reel Productions and may help in student academic and career advising. Professional experience in television production and a master’s degree are preferred for this position. Candidates with over 15 years of television production experience with a bachelor’s degree may also be considered. The individual will receive full benefits as a full-time employee of the university.

Dr. Ha’s Asian Advertising review article to publish in June 2010.
Dr. Louisa Ha’s article, “Advertising Research on Asian Countries and Ethnic Groups: A twenty year trend analysis and State of Art Review” will be published in the forthcoming June 2010 issue of Dimensions, a refereed Journal of Management from IBS Mumbai.
Public Lecture on Media Convergence by BGSU Centennial Alumni Recipient
Dr. David Kennedy, a BGSU Centennial Alumni Award Recipient, will give a public lecture organized by the Department of Telecommunications, titled, “Radio, Televison and Convergence, Brought to You by the Web,” on April 23 Friday at 11:30 a.m. West Hall. A TCOM alumni gathering honoring him will follow after teh lecture.
Dave is the CEO of Flycast, Inc., a mobile media network with cutting edge applications for smartphones. He is a 1976 M.A. and 1981 Ph.D. alumni of the former Radio Television Film program.
He received many industry awards including the Broadcaster of the Year by Radio Ink and the Beville Award for Audience Research from the National Asssociation of Broadcasters and Broadcast Education Association.
