The TCOM Student Association, the Department of Telecommunications, and the BGSU Career Center are jointly organizing the 2nd TCOM Career Day on March 22 Friday with alumni career panel, company presentations, luncheon, and on-site interviews.  The alumni career panel and company presentations are open to the public.  Students sign up for on-site interviews via WorkNet.

Two guest lectures in TCOM from WQRN and alumni Joe Philport and Ryan Zangrilli

1.  Dan McClintok of WQRN who will speak to the TCOM4610 Audience Research THIS WEDNESDAY, September 26, 2012 at the TCOM 4610 Audience Research class, in room 226 Olscamp Hall from 6pm-9pm.

Mr. McClintok will talk about current radio research, how it is gathered and applied on a local basis.

A question and answer session will immediately follow his talk.

This live radio show highlighting trivia you may and may not know about the University will take place at the Black Swamp Pub in the BTSU on Monday December 6th at 7 pm. You can play along with our panelists and

win prizes! This quiz show will be broadcast live on 88.1 WBGU-FM and online at www.wbgufm.com. Join us at the Black Swamp Pub for the fun.

As part of the program there will be a special appearance by WTOL 11 News Anchor Jerry Anderson.

ESPN VP TCOM alum to speak on Nov 10 at 4:30 p.m. Olscamp 213

Bob Braunlich, VP of ESPN Event Operations, and a 1976 TCOM Alumnus, will speak to Dr. Liggett TCOM4390 class in Olscamp 213 this Wednesday Nov 10 at 4:30 on his career path and work at ESPN. All TCOM students and the public are welcome to attend.

Below is a biography of Braunlich:

At BGSU for Grad School from Fall 1974 to Fall 1978. Masters degree and work towards Doctorate. Extensive work at WBGU radio and WBGU TV, plus was a TA for undergrad TV Production classes. January 1978 to Dec 1981- on the faculty in the Broadcasting Dept at Central Michigan University. Taught classes plus managed two campus radio stations and a campus CATV operation. Started a company with 2 other gentlemen at that time doing industrial and PR oriented video. Also worked for regional CATV company. Packed up and moved from Michigan to NYC in March of 1982. Started at ABC network in April of 1982 as a Production Manager. Did mostly in-house studio type wrap shows for first 2 years, then did field work as a PM for 8 years. Hit over 150 days annually on the road and decided to jump to management side when an opportunity arose. Became a Production Executive at ABC Sports. Involved in the planning and execution of events from idea through completion- Above and below the line. In 2003 became VP of Remote Operations for ABC Sports. In 2006 Disney merged ABC Sports into ESPN. Became a VP in ESPN Event Operations. Now based out of Bristol, Connecticut (ESPN’s headquarters) rather than NYC. Past shows include- 2 Olympics, Pan Am Games from Cuba, Auto Racing, Monday Night Football, 2 SuperBowls, Horse Racing, College Football, Baseball, NYC Marathon, Golf. Present shows under my watch include- College Football, Basketball and Baseball. BCS Bowl Games, College GameDay, Horse Racing, Entertainment events, Golf and any show involving air on ABC.

Kodak’s latest “Higher Definition” presentation – Oct 4th. 105 Hanna Hall from 10:30 a.m.- 12:00 p.m

Mr. Jose Cardenas, lecturer of the TCOM department who is on leave this year, organized this one-day presentation on October 4 Monday in conjunction with the BG Reel Productions and the TCOM Student Association, will start off at the Gish, 105 Hanna Hall from 10:30 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. with discussions on current trends as well as look into the future of high definition visual acquisition.

Cost factors, speed, reliability, and quality will be addressed looking into Kodak’s latest “Higher Definition” stock.

With technology changing at an exponential rate – what is a good equipment investment?

There will be a hands-on portion In the afternoon, this is scheduled at South Hall’s Film Studio on 4th floor (weather permitting we may do this outside). The day will conclude at 018 West Hall with the total post work-flow in High Definition. Areas discussed will include equipment investment, time, lab, total cost factors and final product delivery not only domestic, but international requirements as well.

There will also be a variety of “give-aways” throughout the day with opportunities to network and ask questions regarding production work flow

The guests will be: Scott Stevens from Kodak and Bill Pivetta from First Avenue Films Inc.

Details: Jim Copper, the President of Cooper-Smith Agency in Toledo, will visit TCOM 4670 Advertising Principles and Practices to talk to the students. He will be accompanied by his three colleagues from the agency, two of whom are recent BGSU graduates (08 and 09 each). Cooper-Smith agency is a highly successful full service advertising agency located in Toledo and serving both national and local advertisers. The guest lecture is open to everyone.
