SMC Ph.D. alumna Joy (Chin-Chung) Chao received tenure and promotion at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and two university research grants

Dr. Joy (Chin-Chung) Chao, a BGSU SMC Ph.D. alumna, received tenure and promotion to associate professor in the School of Communication at the University of Nebraska at Omaha this spring.  She is also the only faculty in the history of her school to receive two research grants at her university in the same year.

Dr. Chao’s research proposal, “From Professionals to First Ladies: The Role of Liyuan Peng and Michelle Obama in the Media’s Portrayal” has been awarded for Faculty Research International (FRI) grant award in the amount of $5,000.

In Fall 2014, she was awarded a 2015 UCRCA grant for her proposal titled, “I Am in the Homeless Home or I Am always on the Way Home: Formatting Identity and Imagined Community through Ethnic Media Use.”

Previously, she received a FRI grant award in 2013-2014 for $5,000, which led to the publication: Chao, C. C., & Tian, D. (2014). Disputes over the Diaoyu/Senkaku Islands: Communication tactics and grand strategies. Journal of International Relations and Foreign Policy, 2(2), 19-47.

Ha’s lecture series in University of Nebraska-Omaha featured in School of Communication Studies Newsletter

Telecommunications Professor Louisa Ha visited University of  Nebraska-Omaha as its University of Committee Advancement for Teaching speaker on Online Teaching and gave a series of lectures with graduate students and faculty of the School of Communication Studies.  Details are featured in its newsletter

Ha to speak at both University of Nebraska-Omaha and University of Nebraska-Lincoln

School of Media and Communication professor Louisa Ha will speak to the faculty and staff of  the University of Nebraska-Omaha on Do’s and Don’ts in online teaching on March 12 as a university invited speaker for instructional development.

This is part of her Nebraska trip during spring break in which she will also speak to graduate students and faculty in the University of Nebraska-Omaha (UNO) about her research in social and mobile media and her career and editorship in Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly.   The organizer of the Omaha trip is Dr. Joy Chao, SMC alum and assistant professor in School of Communication of UNO.

In addition, Ha will also speak at a research colloquium of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln on March 13 on her research on US  digital broadcast subchannel viewing:  A comparison of Commercial and Public Broadcast Channels.

 

TCOM senior Jimmi Gangwer received paid internship from Academy of Television (Emmy) foundation internship program in Losa Angeles

TCOM senior Jimmi Gangwer, received the paid internship from the highly competitive Academy of Television (Emmy) foundation internship program. She will work at SJ2 Entertainment in Los Angeles starting late June/early July in post-production.
