Notes: Originally produced as a motion picture in 1999. Based on the 1937 musical by Marc Blitzstein. Originally a part of the Federal Theatre Project, directed by Orson Welles. The show was recorded and released on seven 78-rpm discs in 1938, making it the first cast album recording. Running time approx. 134 min.
Summary:Takes a kaleidoscope look at the extraordinary events in 1930s America, bringing Depression-era New York City to vivid life. Looking at a young Orson Wells and a troupe of passionte actors who risk everthing to perform the infamous musical “The Cradle Will Rock.” As threats to their freedom and livelihood loom larger, they refuse to give in to censorship.
