Summary: Disc 1. “The Lady Vanishes”: During a transcontinental train trip in Europe, a young woman is alarmed to discover a passenger has disappeared — “The Farmer’s Wife”: (silent) A lonely widowed farmer is looking for a new bride, not realizing the housekeeper helping him with his search is secretly in love with him — “The Manxman” (silent): A romantic tale of intrigue involving a love triangle concerning three residents of the Isle of Man — Alfred Hitchcock presents: the “Chaney “Vase”: An elderly woman finds herself a prisoner in her own home — Alfred Hitchock presents: “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”: A young drifter is befriended by a carnival magician and his beautiful assistant, who don’t realize with whom they are involved. Disc 2. “Rich and Strange”: Believing that an unexpected inheritance will bring them happiness, a married couple instead finds their relationship strained to the breaking point.; “The Thirty-nine Steps”: A man in London tries to help a counterespionage agent. But when the agent is killed and he stands accused, he must go on the run to both save himself and also stop a spy ring trying to steal top secret information.; “Secret Agent”: After three British agents are assigned to assassinate a mysterious German spy during World War I, two of them become ambivalent when their duty to the mission conflicts with their consciences.; “Champagne”: A spoiled heiress defies her father by running off to marry her lover. But Daddy has a few tricks up his sleeve.; “Blackmail”: Alice White, detective Frank Webber’s girlfriend, is invited by an artist to visit his studio. The man tries to rape Alice and she kills him with a knife to defend herself. A criminal sees the murder and he keeps the lady’s glove from the crime scene in order to blackmail her. Frank is assigned to the murder case.
