Assignment 3

Part 1

For this image I selected the part that I wanted and clicked refine edge and found the correct settings to make it look like it was meant to be on that background

Part 2

For this image I made an adjustment layer and turned it black and white. Then using the mask that was created with the adjustment layer, I painted the area that I wanted to be the original image black. If I wanted to make some parts black and white again, I painted those areas white.

Part 3

For this image, I used the photomerge tool to automatically make the panoramic image. The I cropped the areas that were not needed, and the turned the image into a clean panoramic.

Children’s Story Poster

Filed under: VCT 4600 — dfine at 3:33 pm on Tuesday, January 25, 2011

The book I chose for my children’s story poster is The Giving Tree. I chose this book because it has great themes in it and it can be interpreted in many different ways. This book is about a boy who finds a tree and the tree always offers him things. As the boy grows up the tree continues to give him things and the boy continues to take them. Towards the end of the book the tree becomes nothing but a stump but the man comes back and the tree still wants to give him something. The tree, which I think represents parents, always gives even if she has nothing left, she tries to give the boy everything. This is similar to parents always wanting to give to their children and expect nothing in return. The tree is representing mother nature, which again is why I think the tree represents parents. I want my poster to represent the growth of the boy and the decline of the tree and how it doesn’t matter how much the tree gives to the boy she continues to give no matter what. Other interpretations are that it is sad that the tree ends up as a stump, but the tree is happy at the end and so is the boy which is all that matters.

The colors I want for the poster are green and red and white. I want to emphasize the give and take but how it is a sweet gesture not just some taking everything and not appreciating it. I chose some illustrations from the book that I want to use to represent the theme. I have included those below. I also did some research and found a lot of information from this website: http://www.edutainingkids.com/reviews/bkthegivingtree.html.

Assignment 1 – January 18, 2011

Part 1

Before

After

To straighten this photo I used the ruler tool and I made a line going across the top left corner. After I pushed enter the image automatically straightens into the image shown above.

Part 2

Before

Before

After

To make this image look straight, I took the crop tool and made sure the perspective box was checked. With this box being checked I was able to drag the corners to the picture and make the crop fit the picture exactly. After I clicked enter the picture looked like it was taken straight on.

Part 3

What I did first was take the quick selection tool and cut each car out of the background of it’s original image. After I did that I used the refine edge tool to soften the edges. After that I placed each car on the background image of the road. I added a drop shadow to the cars to make it look like they are on the road instead of just placed on the page and separated from the background.

Part 4

For this photo I added some clarity and vibrance in Camera Raw to make the dog more rich in color. Then I used the quick selection tool to cute the dog out of the background and refined the edges to make them look smooth. Then I placed the dog in to the background image and added a drop shadow to make him look like he is actually supposed to be in the image.
