Sidra Lawrence, Instructor of Ethnomusicology, won both the African Music Section and Wong Tolbert prizes at the Society for Ethnomusicology national meeting for her 2010 paper “Sounds of Development? Race, Authenticity and Tradition among Dagara Women of Northwestern Ghana.”

Elainie Lillios to judge for the Sound in Space competition in Boston
Composition faculty member Elainie Lillios travels to Boston November 16-19 to participate as a judge in the Sound in Space competition. Lillios will be joined by two of the leading experts in electroacoustics, Daniel Teruggi, Director of the GRM, Groupe de Recherche Musicales (France) and Ludger Brummer, Director of ZKM, Institute for Music and Acoustics in Karlsruhe (Germany) The festival is co-sponsored by The Goethe-Institut Boston and the Cultural Service of the Consulate General of France, in partnership with Harvard University and Northeastern University. In addition to judging the competition, Lillios will participate with Teruggi and Brummer on a panel discussion entitled “On the interpretation of electroacoustic music”, and her piece “Stumbling Dance” will be presented on Saturday night’s concert. Thomas Rosenkranz to visit The Shenyang Conservatory of Dalian in China
Assistant Professor of Piano, Thomas Rosenkranz will visit the Shenyang Conservatory of Dalian on November 7th and 8th. He will be presented in a series of masterclasses for the students there.
Nicole Biggs performs in Israel
Nicole Biggs, assistant professor of class piano, performed in Israel Oct. 21- Oct. 31. Her performances included two solo piano recitals and a collaborative recital with string players from the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
Works by by Philip Glass, Howard Ferguson, and Franz Liszt were featured in the solo recitals. The collaborative recital featured the Mozart Piano Quartet in G Minor and the Mendelssohn Piano Quartet in B Minor, and was performed with Saida Bar Lev, Zvi Carmel, and Hillel Zori. Nicole performed at the Tiberias Conservatory (in Tiberias), the Felicja Blumenthal Music Center in Tel Aviv, and the Mormon University in Jerusalem. The Tiberias and Jerusalem concerts were sold out.
The Jewish Agency for Israel, Partnership2gether, and the Oklahoma Israel Exchange sponsored the concert tour.
Oboist Jacqueline Leclair to perform with Ensemble Signal
Jacqueline Leclair, Assistant Professor of Oboe, will perform with the chamber orchestra Ensemble Signal, conducted by Brad Lubman, on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 6:30pm. The concert is a memorial for the recently deceased great Polish composer, Henryk Gorecki. The concert is at le Poisson Rouge in New York, NY.
