BGSU Firelands Recognizes Scholarship Recipients, Donors
October 16, 2015 | Press Release | Leave a Comment
On Friday morning, Bowling Green State University Firelands College honored some of their best and brightest during the 16th Annual Scholarship Breakfast.
Held in the Cedar Point Center on the Firelands campus, the event brings together the recipients of scholarships offered through the College and the donor organization and individuals who support those scholarships.
“It’s really a special event,” said BGSU Firelands Director of Enrollment Management & Student Retention Services Debralee Divers. “The donors are delighted to see the tangible results of their generous contributions and for the opportunity to meet our students. Equally important, the scholarship recipients appreciate the opportunity to thank those who have helped them achieve their dreams,” added Divers who organized the event.
A capacity crowd of more than 200 people including donors, students and their families, and representatives from the Bowling Green Campus attended the event.
Throughout the morning, 123 students were recognized and they collectively were awarded nearly $150,000 in scholarships.
“Scholarships take a tremendous financial weight off a student’s shoulders. Because of the scholarship I was awarded I am able to focus time and energy on my studies and less time worrying about financial pressures,” said second-year BGSU Firelands student Kierston Rospert.
Students can receive scholarships based on their achievements inside or outside of the classroom or for financial need. For some students, financial need is the only thing that stands between them and their dreams of a college education.
“I believe I speak for all scholarship recipients when I say thank you to the donors for their generosity,” said Rospert.

Based on the classic novel by horror master Stephen King, CARRIE: THE MUSICAL has gone unproduced since its notorious 1988 Broadway production. Now, fully revised and re-imagined for a new era, CARRIE hews close to its source material to weave the tale of a bullied and abused teenager who discovers within her the power to strike back.
Carrie White is a friendless misfit. Emotionally abused at home by an overprotective and religiously zealous mother, and mercilessly mocked and taunted at her high school, Carrie has nowhere to turn except within herself; and within her lies a powder keg of preternatural power waiting to be unleashed.
CARRIE is a musical powerhouse, alternating between kinetic, pop/rock infused turns and soaring grand opera-esque arias by the composing team behind FAME (Michael Gore & Dean Pitchford); and the book, by the screenwriter of the 1976 Brian De Palma film (Lawrence D. Cohen), is an of-the-minute account of extreme religiosity and teenage bullying.
Rated R.
All those auditioning under age 17 must have signed parental permission to participate, as the show has mature language and themes (consent forms available at auditions).
