Norwalk resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Amy Rose Beier of Norwalk has received the Edward and Donna (Bender) Hamer Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. She will receive $1,328 towards tuition for the 2016-2017 academic year.

This endowed scholarship was established in 2002 by Mrs. Donna Hamer. This award is available to a full-time student at BGSU Firelands. School and community activities as well as financial need are factors for this award.

Beier is a 2013 graduate of Norwalk High School. She received academic, soccer, softball, and bowling letters. She received a Board Resolution-Gold Tassel, Good Citizenship Award, Academic Award, Northern Ohio League Scholar Athlete Award, Rotary Citizenship Athlete Award, First Team All-District Award and Award of Excellence in soccer. She also earned an OSHAA Award of Excellence, Captain’s Award in softball, and Most Valuable Player Award in bowling. She was involved in her church’s youth group and was vice president of H.O.P.E. Club.

Beier is a senior majoring in criminal justice at BGSU Firelands. She is currently on the Dean’s List and earned an associate’s degree in criminal justice. She is treasurer of the Criminal Justice Club.

She is the daughter of Mary and Bill Beier of Norwalk.

Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Shandra Marie Coder of Sandusky has received the Dudley Allen White Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. She will receive $908 towards tuition for the 2016-2017 academic year.

This scholarship, established in 2002 by Alice Rau, White’s sister, is available to a student who is a resident of Erie or Huron counties and is pursuing a bachelor of liberal studies. Involvement in school and community activities and financial need are considered.

Coder is a 2005 graduate of Norwalk High School.

She is a junior at BGSU Firelands where she is on the Dean’s List. She volunteers at Fisher Titus Medical Center, United Way of Erie County, and Goodwill Industries of Erie County.

She is married to Sean Coder of Sandusky.

Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Cassidy Rae Hall of Sandusky has received the Richard A. Jeffery Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. She will receive $750 towards tuition for the 2016-2017 academic year.

This scholarship is made possible through the generous donations of friends and family of Richard A. Jeffrey. Erie County residents who are graduates of Sandusky, St. Mary’s Central Catholic, Perkins, Edison, Huron or Margaretta high schools and are majoring in nursing, medicine or science who have a 3.0 GPA are eligible for consideration. Community service is also a consideration.

Hall is a 2016 graduate of Perkins High School where she was on the honor roll. She received a varsity letter for choir and Academic Skills USA. She was a volunteer and coordinator for the Bloodmobile drives, and a member of Student Council. She was in choir, basketball, and Aim for Excellence.

She is a sophomore majoring in nursing at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of Tina Hall of Sandusky.

Milan resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Tanner John Whitacre of Milan has received the Dr. Jeffrey Wagner Memorial Scholarship in Natural Sciences to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. He will receive $849 towards tuition for the 2016-2017 academic year.

This scholarship was established by Barbara Wagner to honor the memory of her late husband, Jeff Wagner. This award recognizes academic achievement of a student pursuing a degree in biology, chemistry, mathematics, geology, or physics at BGSU Firelands or BGSU. The recipient must be a resident of Erie, Huron, or Ottawa counties and maintain at least a 3.5 GPA.

Whitacre is a 2015 graduate of Edison High School.

He is a sophomore majoring in education at BGSU Firelands where he is on the Dean’s List.

He is the son of Brenda and Jeff Whitacre of Milan.

Bay View resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Christopher Ray Scherz of Bay View has received the Richard P. “Dick” Smith Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. He will receive $1,000 towards tuition for the 2016-2017 academic year.

This award is funded through an endowment by Dick and Connie Smith in recognition of the special challenges adult learners overcome while pursuing their higher education goals. The scholarship is available to nontraditional students who have completed their first year of study at BGSU Firelands. Financial need is a factor.

Scherz is a 2004 graduate of Margaretta High School.

Scherz is a senior majoring in communication at BGSU Firelands. He is the student activities chair for Firelands Student Body Government and is the secretary of Students for Change. He is also a member of C.H.A.T.S..

He is the son of Barbara Williamson and John Scherz, Sr..
