Hello everyone, how’s it going? I hope well. Anyways, this page is to discuss chapter two. Chapter two is all about history, in different aspects, of second life. One view relates to the ancient ‘allegory in the cave’ by Plato. Essentially what westerns think of ‘real’can be related to the virtual world where we now ‘presume that nonphysical worlds are ontologically subsequent to physical ones’ (p. 34). Another view is more technological than philosophical and it deals with print media, postal systems, then eventually to the electronic mass media etc. Print media allows one to be taken to an imagined world (which I must agree). Books like The Lord of the Rings and Narnia have had large impacts attributing to the imagination of virtual worlds. This chapter is very informative in terms of history and the kindof mechanics of the virtual world. It also is very insightful as a researcher reading another researchers experiences studying a virtual world.
