Chapter 7

Chapter 7 discusses community and the concept of a virtual world, meaning it has multiple people.  Now in this community there are “groups” which have two primary meanings.  ONe is a formal sense, says the author linked to the platform and an informal sense of association (183).  So a formal group would be the “Rad Cyber Geeks.”  Another informal group is the ‘magical’ community.  These people I have noticed enjoy the Harry Potter books and have environments dedicated to representing that world.  This chapter also discusses griefing and as we talked about in chapter 6, real relationships can be formed.  SL unlike MMORPGs, allows a person to clearly mimic multiple human emotions or motions, therfore griefing is possible.  The example the author uses is just another testament on how ‘real’ SL can be.
