Portfolio Introduction
My name is Rob Harris and I am in my fourth year at BGSU. I took English 207 because it was a requirement, but I got experience with writing, which I can always use. I am a Interpersonal Communication major with a General Business minor. I don’t know what I will do with that after school, but hopefully something that pays fair and lets me utilize my skills that I obtained in this class..
This portfolio was the end of the year project that will demonstrate what we did in English 207. The pages are divided into different topics that I have been working on and gradually adding to my blog site throughout this semester. The three unit pages each contain two projects adding up to six total assignments that I have completed. This portfolio is a way for me to organize all the projects and all my reflections that I have accomplished in this course. The main goal is to put all these items in one basket to make it simple for our audience to see all my improvements, strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes, and even our thoughts, which can be found on the Daily Blogs page.
The main objective of my portfolio is for you to understand the steps I took to learn these topics. Looking through all my assignments will clearly show what I learned and how I progressed through out this semester. The first thing I’m going to talk about is how the portfolio shows my understanding of who my intended audience is. This is accomplished by looking how I wrote my projects with clear indication that they were written for the intended audience. My Group PSA that was intended for our class to watch is the first assignment. This one will show that we used vocabulary, terms, motions, and a topic that my fellow classmates will understand. Also my rhetorical analysis assigned me to dissect a PSA and criticise how well it reaches it’s intended audience. Then lastly our cover letter for the job we were writing for describes us and what we wanted our potential interviewers to know about us. Also we arranged our resumes to include skills, and experiences that we thought would best suit the job position we were applying for.
Another topic we covered was learning literacy. We did a lot of learning on literacy and I believe this portfolio clearly shows this. Unit I shows the beginning projects we did which were based on our literacy’s. The very first project was my Visual Narrative assignment. Here I had to use pictures to show my everyday literacy’s. The next assignment was my Literacy Narrative that tells a story of how I came about using one of my literacy’s. Both these projects helped me think of all the various literacies people have, and also helped me breakdown one of them and look at it more in depth. Then we did our final project which demonstrated one of our literacy’s we use and will use in the professional world. This shows what we knew about literacy in the beginning of the semester and what we know about literacy now. The projects listed above show the main topics we learned in this class because we dealt with literacy and our audiences in all of our projects.
We also did a lot of team work. This includes the group PSA where we had to brainstorm, organize our ideas, and put it all together as a group. This helped develope communication skills in a small group that will help in the future when wroking on business projects. Also we did a peer review on almost every project. This helped a lot because my peers would tell me to add something, or do something different that would ultimately make my assignment better. Anyway these were the assignments I did in class over the topics mentioned above, so take a look at my portfolio and see my experiences first hand.
