Project One In-Store Display
In-store displays are displays that are shown at grocery stores and clothing stores. The main purposes for in-store displays are to promote new items or display what new items are on sale. The reason in-store displays are used is to increase product awareness and promote product sales.
The field research I did for the in-store display project was visiting Meijer and taking photos of their end shelf displays. I found a few end shelf displays that caught my eye. The displays I took photos of were Russell Stover chocolates, Meijer Brand cookies, crackers, and chips; Meijer candy displays; and Crayola; and Elmer’s glue.
The Russell Stover Chocolates display was made out of stained wood to make it look professional. The display had wooden shelves on the front and both of the sides that are used to show the boxes of chocolates. They also added plastic mini shelves to the front side of the display so they could sell smaller chocolates. I liked the overall look of this display by the way they can show all the different chocolates they sell on the front of the display.
The Meijer Brand display was a basic looking display that was dressed up a little to catch a person’s eye while walking the main row of the grocery store. They used a photo of each of the items they were selling at this display on the top of the display, so people knew what items were being sold at this display. They used a saying that read “party time, snack time, any time…” next to the images on the top banner. The displayed was made out of red shelves other then the normal cream shelves. I liked how they tried to dress the shelves up and use different color shelving
The Crayola display was just a front side of an end shelf display. They used dark green as the color of the back wall and the shelves of the display. The banner used for this display was used on the top of the display, with the Crayola logo on the banner with an image of children playing. The items displayed were all different types of Crayola products from crayons, markers, paint and other coloring papers to drawl on. I liked this display because it was just the front side of the display and they had no sides, so the selves were longer and they could store more items on them.
The Elmer’s glue display was a display that was using a large box with the center of the box being a large part of the display. This type of display was placed in the middle of the main walkway of a store. The back wall of the display was a glue bottle on it, the side and the whole inside of the box was where they had the glue bottles for sale. I liked this display because it does not have selves so the display always looks full.
The product I choose for my In-store display was a Crayola Crayon Box. I drew my thumbnails as I was using the box of crayons as the product and the inside of the box was going to be used as the shelves. I also tried to use the crayons as the back of the display but I did not like the way it turned out. The first compete I drew was a crayon box that was open and you could see all the tops of the crayons with the front being used as the shelves. The second compete I drew was the whole Crayola crayon box, like one of the ones you would buy from the store. The compete I like the most would be the first one, because I like how it shows the top of the crayons and lets you see more of the box then the second one.
The colors I will be using will be the colors that are on the box, they are yellow and green and I will try to use the Crayola logo. The display will be shown on the end of shelf at grocery stores. The display will only be a front display and will not have items on the side. This is the product I will be designing as my In-Store Display.
