The TRC recently installed a Xyron XM4400 cold laminator. It uses a 38″ wide laminate roll and instantly bonds to paper without any heat or warmup time. The intended purpose of the machine is to complement our poster printing service, which is based on 36″ roll paper, but it can be used for a variety of paper sizes and projects.
The laminator seems to work best with a single layer of paper but we recently put a large student project through it that was about 3 layers thick. It will take some time for my staff and I to learn the capabilities of this system and gain confidence using it. Until then, there will be no charge for use during this temporary training period. After that, we will likely have a fee of $2 per liner roll foot (a job that is 36X48 would be $8) payable by department budget number or credit card. Contact the TRC staff for samples or additional details and please DO NOT consider laminating any one-of-a-kind items or family heirlooms at this time. 😁
