The successful candidate will have experience and knowledge in news and public affairs programming and executive producing. Supervisory experience and managing large projects also required.

This person should have demonstrated skills and experience in producing major projects successfully from start to finish of the stature for national distribution. Since 2004, the OAB has invested over $95,000 in scholarships to college students with a promising career in broadcasting. We’re proud to support the next generation of broadcasters and encourage students pursuing a career in broadcasting to apply!

Eligibility

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be considered:

  • Full-time student at an Ohio college or university
  • Incoming junior or senior (two completed years of coursework)
  • Majoring or minoring in radio or television broadcasting or communications
  • Minimum GPA of 2.75 / 4.0 or equivalent

Susan G. Komen Northwest Ohio Internship for the Summer 2015

Komen Northwest Ohio Marketing & Public Relations Intern 

General Description: The internship will encompass the Northwest Ohio Affiliate daily operations including the administrative and logistical needs of the office, communications, marketing, public relations, and special projects as assigned.

Compensation: TBD

Time Commitment: 12 hours per week minimum required. Komen Northwest Ohio office hours are 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Some weekend hours may be required.

 Specific Responsibilities:

  • Help identify, write and publish stories featuring Komen Northwest Ohio grantees, breast cancer
  • survivors, volunteers, and fundraisers.
  • Help create and monitor content for social media marketing communications
  • Write news releases and perform follow-up calls to key media contacts.
  • Assist with monthly e-newsletter creation.
  • Attend events as a Komen Northwest Ohio representative, shooting photos/video and writing stories.
  • Assist  in organizing a system for filing Komen Northwest Ohio media clippings
  • Monitor news articles posted on Komen.org
  • Update Affiliate online photo albums
  • Assist with answering phones, light clerical work, and data management needs as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills Required:

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interview and journalism-style writing skills
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office
  • Familiar with Social Media platforms
  • Excellent copy-editing and proofing skills
  • Education Required: College student who has completed a minimum of 24 credit hours and pursuing a communications or journalism degree

Qualifications:

The virtual job fair provides information to the public about jobs available at Ohio radio and TV stations, as well as the ability to directly communicate with station representatives.

2015 Sports Journalism Institute

Do you know any students looking for a summer sports journalism internship? We are now accepting applications for the 2015 Sports Journalism Institute, an intensive week of instruction from top professionals and an eight-week paid internship at a print, digital or electronic media outlet. We’re looking for any current sophomores, juniors or seniors who are interested in sports journalism.

The program starts with journalism training sessions from May 29 to June 6, 2015 at the University of Missouri at Columbia, followed by paid internships across the country (to be determined individually). Class session topics range from ethics to photo editing to how to keep a running score at a basketball game to copy editing.
