The Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA), an aviation trade association based in Washington, D.C., is seeking an energetic and ambitious individual for a paid internship in its Communications and Marketing Department. This is a wonderful opportunity for interested candidates to receive a solid background in many aspects of public relations and communications and to experience working at an association.

  • Assisting the Department with social media efforts: maintaining the Facebook page; Tweeting; filming/posting YouTube channel clips; blogging; Linked In
  • Writing press releases and responding to media inquiries;
  • Writing and editing various articles for association publications;
  • Functioning as a “wire editor” selecting our daily clips for members;

Preferred intern candidates will:

  • Be a rising junior or senior at an accredited college/university currently pursuing a degree in public relations, communications, and/or journalism;
  • Have experience in various aspects of social media in the business setting (i.e. blogging, FaceBook, Twitter, YouTube);
  • Have strong technical skills;
  • Have an interest in a fast-paced environment working on a variety of projects and programs related to transportation and aviation;
  • Enjoy working in a medium-sized office (37 staff) in downtown Washington (18th and K Streets, NW);
  • Able to live in the Washington, D.C. metro area. No car necessary as office is near Metro (Orange, Red, Blue lines);
  • Have a desire to be mentored and to complete a portfolio for future employers;
  • Be interested in working in a three-person Communications and Marketing Department that supports the other departments’ communications goals.

The association represents virtually all of the major airports in the U.S. and Canada. Learn more about ACI-NA at www.aci-na.org.

To apply, email a cover letter, resume and writing sample or published clips to Thomas J. Smith at tsmith@aci-na.org by March 15. Put ‘Comm-Marketing Summer Intern’ in the subject line.

*A BG student can gain an edge in the process as I will interview qualified DC-metro area students who are home for Spring Break. The key would be to apply early, ideally by March 1. We have set March 15 as the deadline for the students from the local colleges.

** Our paid internship is ideal for a student from the Washington metro area so they can bank their monthly stipend and live at home. Out-of-area students can find summer housing in George Washington University’s dorms that are rented to non-GWU students.
