Washington Media Scholars Foundation

The Washington Media Scholars Foundation creates scholarship, learning and career advancement opportunities for college students interested in public policy media strategy, research and management. The organization coordinates three programs of varying intensity to carry out this mission:

1. Media Scholars Program. Beginning with the Media Plan Case Competition, the Media Scholars Program identifies talented undergraduates from across the country and brings the finalists to Washington, DC for a week of networking and out-of-the-classroom educational opportunities with organizations such as Google, Politico, CNN and the Wall Street Journal. At a Networking Reception held at the Newseum, the foundation distributes $10,000 in scholarship awards.

2. The Media Mentors Program provides students with an experienced advocate who provides insight into making the most of your undergraduate experience to benefit your entry into the job market. Opened to students in their sophomore year and above, this program has a streamlined rolling application process, easing the administrative burden for busy students.

3. An additional Scholarship Program will launch in the summer of 2011. Details made available in the spring of 2011.

In the past, participating students have majored in advertising, marketing, public relations, political science and even astrophysics. Some have found work in Washington, DC immediately post-graduation, and others have found work closer to their home universities.
