- 2011 – The Elizabeth Smart Foundation is created.
- March 2011 – Smart is awarded the Diane von Furstenberg Award.
- May 25, 2011 – Mitchell sentenced to life in federal prison.
- July 7, 2011 – Smart becomes a commentator for ABC News.
- January 2012 – Smart becomes engaged to Matthew Gilmour.
- February 18, 2012 – Smart and Gilmour marry.
