SUGGESTED PAPER TOPICS

Although our theme is “Africana World: Transatlantic Dialogues,” we welcome papers dealing with the broader issues affecting Africana people in the global context including but not limited to: language, religion, gender and culture; ethnicity, politics, leadership, economics and commerce; law; medicine & public health practices; education; war and terrorism; peace and conflict resolution; youth, crime, and vigilante justice; changing values and norms; role of the arts/media; education and development, immigration/migration, slavery and European influences; property rights, peace & security; rural-urban changes; the civil war; political-economic empowerment and leadership; and national reconciliation; census; etc.

We encourage undergraduate and graduate students from all disciplines to participate.  Moreover, we request faculty to help us identify student papers this semester that are worthy of submission/presentation and where possible, to assist their students to attend the conference.

Please include the following in your proposal: name, current position where applicable and institutional affiliation, paper title, abstract (300 words maximum), your email and mailing addresses. You will be notified of acceptance and other program details by email. Selected papers will be considered for publication and inclusion in the conference proceedings.

There is no conference registration fee but participants are responsible for all costs associated with their participation in the conference. We can negotiate reduced conference rates with area hotels.

Please email your proposal to: Libby Hertenstein eherten@bgsu.edu and be sure to copy: afrs-colloquium@bgsu.edu. We expect to have your completed paper by February 1, 2012 since we hope to collate the papers as an edited volume and award certificate and prizes for best papers.

Deadline for submission of paper proposals is January 13, 2012.
