Monet

Claude Monet is credited as the founder of French impressionism. He also is known for being the most consistent practitioner of the painting style that expresses ones perception of nature. I love not just Monet’s beautiful execution of natures landscapes but also his use of soft and pleasing color unparalleled by other artists. In this weeks class, Sarah used Monet’s “Water Lillies” as inspiration for her own work. I love that she still used my favorite elements of Monet in her own piece. For instance, she transferred the two-dimensional texture of the water lillies and worked them into the green lines of her work.
Monet’s piece called “The Park Monceau” is a painting that strikes me as one of his most magnificent works. His use of color and texture across the entire work creates such a soft unity that creates harmony and calmness. What I love about the picture is that there is little contrast amongst the elements, creating little tension. Living in a time of economic depression and extreme pressure of school this landscape works as a dreamy escape.
