There are many beneficial blogs on the the internet and you can pick to follow which ever kind your are interested in. In my case that is fashion! I love to dress how I feel so that means many different and unique pieces in my closet. One day I may be feeling very energetic and mix and match prints and colors while other days I may be tired and wear grey’s, navy’s and blacks. Which ever way I feel, lulus has it and its blog helps me generate idea and keeps me up to date on all new fashion trends. Also, my shoes are considered my children and my model is that I don’t want any ugly kids and I think all deserve a good home. This is because shoes make the outfit. For me they are the center piece that ties an outfit together. Lulus is perfect because they range from more affordable shoes to steeper, more unique shoes.  They range from sneakers and flats to platforms and stilettos in many different name brands and colors. The blog not only covers clothes and shoes but accessories as well. It helps to mix and match colors, prints and styles. It helps to show how much is too much and if you need to throw on some more. It also helps to tell you for instance, whether you need a long necklace, short necklace or no necklace at all; if your earrings are big enough. This is a good blog to follow if you are interested in fashion and like to try new things. I would recommend this blog to my peers because even the guys could get tips for a Christmas for a girlfriend maybe? Lol, whichever you use it for, you’ll be sure to enjoy it.

Iphone VS Android

Just as the battle between the Iphone cult and Android users started to heat up, Instagram announced that Android users could use the popular app. On April 3rd 2012, Instagram was released to Android users and now has more than 80 million users worldwide, growing by an average of 10 million users per month. When the app was released to android, Iphone users didn’t welcome them with open arms. There was a battle about which phone was better and Instagram was considered a luxury to those who had an Iphone or any other apple product. The emoji app didn’t help things either. Iphone users can share these emoji’s to iphone users but Android users see these characters as boxes. When the app was released to android users, they signed up like crazy because they were eager to join the social network to see what they were missing. I remember Iphone users being mad and refusing to add any android user. I also remember there were some instagram malfunctions and Iphone users blamed it on Android users. The materialism in it all is sickening. I refused to sign up for instagram until recently because I disagreed with the materialistic views of the app. Apparently, android users “couldn’t afford the Iphone, and that the app was for people who could?” and I just did not agree. As a member of team android, I paid over 400 dollars for my phone but why did it matter? I believe that our generation is obsessed with material things and I just couldn’t stand to join a social network based on those reasons. As the fight started to die down, I signed up and I love it! I love being able to share pictures with my peers while showing creativity and style. Although there is still a “beef” between iphone and android users, we are all learning to coexist.

Washington Post Hurricane Sandy Twitter Coverage

I decided to cover the Washington post on their coverage for hurricane sandy and it wasn’t the brightest idea I’ve ever had. The Washington Post Twitter was filled with mostly political articles, which I should have known would be the case. Furthermore, there were still some articles about it posted to twitter that I would like to elaborate more on. There was one particular article that stuck out and it was about a good Samaritan going out in the storm to help a friend change a tire. The tire would not release from the bottom of the vehicle and when he tried to go underneath to get it, the call fell down off the jack. This is a good story because it shows heroic individuals in a time of tragedy and how we all come together no matter what during them. Another story that stuck out was a about the death toll in the Caribbean islands and Haiti was struck the hardest. There was too much flooding and over 70% of the crops were destroyed and 52 people died! This is sad because of the tragedy with the earthquake that caused so much devastation in the near past. Haiti has suffered a lot in the past couple of years and Sandy did not help matters. Still, I was happy to be informed on this matter and the Washington Post did a good job doing so. The last article that really out to me was how the storm could cause election problems for Pennsylvania, not only is that serious but also makes me think, there are way more important things to discuss as it pertains to Sandy and America. Although there was an over-abundance of political articles, the Washington Post still did a good job covering the storm. They provided updates of deaths from the Caribbean to the American States. They tracked the storm to help people see where it was headed and how strong it would be and they provided many pictures for the public to see. Overall, this storm was another obstacle for America and the world to suffer but from what was covered on the Washington Post twitter and many other news sites, everybody did their part to ensure the recovery of America in this time of need.

Twerk Team does Damage

I recently had a conversation with a co-worker and was disappointed about what I heard. Her 16-year-old daughter and friend posted a video to YouTube of them dancing. Not just any kind of dance but ‘twerking’. I automatically knew what influence them to do this, The Twerk Team. The Twerk Team is a group of three girls who post videos of themselves dancing to the latest hip hop hits but you can never see their face because their rear-end are the stars of the show! These girls were an instant hit and now star in main stream music videos, award shows, concerts and many other events. I can admit to liking them but only for entertainment. What I disagree about is their influence on younger generations. Twerking is basically stripping without taking your clothes off but women do it half naked anyway so that doesn’t really matter. Teenage boy’s love them so teen girls want to be them! There are a bunch of Twerk Team parody videos on the internet and most of the girls aren’t even old enough to vote! The biggest disappointment was when my co-worker confronted her daughter; she didn’t feel like anything was wrong with what she had done! “Everybody is doing it” she said! We need to be more conscious about what we put into the minds of children because they are easily influenced. We need to spend more time educating them so that they can see videos like these as pure entertainment. If we don’t, they will idolize these women and we won’t have a generation of doctors and lawyers and ceo’s, but we’ll have a generation of strippers and video girls willing to sell themselves for money and fame. In this day and age, you can get famous for anything and this generation is headed in the wrong direction!

Over the course of twitter existence, many celebrities have passed away. Not in the real world but the Twitter world. Everyone from Justin Beiber to Adam Sandler all passed away according to Twitter. These were all a string of hoaxes tweeted by random tweeters who had too much time on their hands. My question is what makes people believe these hoaxes? Twitter deaths spread like wild fire and before you know it, everybody thinks that a celebrity is dead. When a celebrity really does pass away, do people shrug it off as a twitter death? As a college student, this subject has been brought up by my friends on occasion and each of us had our own opinion about it. We know better to confirm a death our self before we start to believe others. I know through my specific subject of education to check sources before I start to believe if anything is true. But what about the many people who believe them. For example, my sister called me and told me that Chris Brown got into a car accident and died. I asked her how she knew and she said it was on the news and that her friend saw it. I got off the phone and did my own internet search and sure enough, Chris Brown was off the south of France, vacationing on a yacht but his death was trending on twitter. He was nowhere near a car! These tweets are insensitive to family member, friends and fans. They cause many people to worry while others are tweet, retweet, and spread the rumor around. Eventually everybody finds out that it was a hoax but it’s has already done its damage by then. Twitter should hire people specifically for controlling these hoaxes by getting them off as soon as possible. These people should work over time to remove these death hoaxes.

Can they handle the Responsibility?

I think that companies should let 23-year-olds run their social media. The younger generation knows the most about it so it would only be right, especially if that person has a college education and experience to accompany it. Even though older generations are starting to be more knowledgeable about social media, the truth is that they will never know as much as our generation does. Yes, some are immature but not all 23-year-olds should be blamed for it. I feel like this is a case where when somebody comes up with an idea and/or perfects it and it blows up; is when people come in and want to control it and take the credit. This semester I’ve noticed that more of my professors are into social media. I don’t think that this is mainly because they want to but because they have to in order to not get left behind. Tweeting and Facebook were not relevant to older generations but when it blew up, they jumped on the bandwagon, so why not put company social media sites in the hands of those who not only want to use it but know how to use it. Another thing is that older generations don’t have a big following unless they are a celebrity of some sort. Younger people can network on social media sites and find their target audience and actually get followed back. It’s sad but true. Companies should want people who are young and hip in order to get their names out there. Yes they may know the technicalities of it but we know the technicalities plus more. Last but not least, about the issue of being able to handle the responsibility, I think most 23-year-old college educated people can. I for didn’t spend the money on my education to flush it down the drain. We know the difference between what is right and what is wrong so should be trusted knowing that we were taught well by older generations. I know this may seem a bit controversial but I only speak on what I see and experience for myself.

Facebook And “Old People”

Social Media and “old people”

When social media websites first started to get popular, it was used mostly by teenagers. As it grew over the years, adults started getting interested in it to find old friends, classmates and family. Teens were mad when finding friend requests from their grandmother in their inbox. Personally I didn’t start accepting older family members until just this year. I was reluctant to do it in the past because I wanted to be able to post something without the worry of offending my “old school” family members who are much more conservative than my generation. The majority of my peers felt the same way and because of that, they migrated from Facebook towards Twitter just to get away from them. Another thing that came into play was, because of the fact that my family members are “old school”, “did I have to worry about them judging me from what I posted”? Which was another reason why I didn’t want to accept older family member as friends. After maturing a bit, I started to realize that social media websites are a good tool for people of all ages to use. Most people are too busy with life and don’t have time to keep in touch with their loved ones so being able to just log into Facebook at night or on a smartphone when you have a little down time is beneficial. I can admit that I still don’t accept family on twitter but Facebook is cool. The live chat capability along with being able to post pictures and a status gives our family a look into our live so that they can see what we are doing even if we don’t speak often. I recently got in touch with my favorite cousin as a child whom I hadn’t seen or heard from in almost 15 years but as soon as I saw her name in the request box I was excited and we got to catch up with each other. In conclusion, although I am still iffy about accepting family members in fear of offending them or them judging me, I believe it is a great tool to be used by all people of all ages

Creeping Employers

I don’t believe that looking at someones facebook profile is essential for learning about a person and actually hiring them. People have been working just fine without having social networks around. I also believe that its not necessary for employers to ask people for passwords. Although the actual profile is public that does not mean that an employer can infringe on the privacy aspect of it. I honestly believe that there is no reason for employers to look at social networks unless that person is believed to be dishonest about any company policies while being under investigation.
