Stephen King’s Role Still “Dark” (Comic Book Resources)

“King is the Executive Editor and Creative Director of Marvel’s much-awaited Dark Tower comic book series and graphic fiction collections,” said Diamond’s press release. “King is directly involved in the creative aspects of this project, supervising all editorial and visual content. Robin Furth, author of Stephen King’s ‘The Dark Tower: A Concordance,’ is outlining the ‘Dark Tower’ comic book series, providing scene-by-scene plotting, and maintaining the continuity and consistency of each story arc.”

While the above implies heavy editorial involvement, many have taken note of the curious absence of King’s credit as “writer” or even “scripter,” as he is merely mentioned as being involved in editorial capacities. Marvel Comics has made no comment since the press release, but stay tuned to CBR News for more on this developing story.

Finally, a comment from me! Although this is a bit late given the date this message was posted, I only read the article a few minutes ago. I am really excited to hear that the Dark Tower series is making its way into comic format. I have read the first 5 books of the series and am almost finished with the 6th, leaving me the final book to read (which I will hopefully do during break). The books are great and involve too much to describe in a short message like this, but they are definitely suited for comics and I hope the transition will be well received. I wish that S.K. received more positive recognition from certain people, and maybe eventually he will. I embrace diversity of opinion, but many people criticize S.K. simply because others do, and they never read his works to discover for themselves reasons to like/dislike the stories. Well, that is it from me now. I’ll try to comment on something else again later.

I must admit that I am guilty of not reading Stephen King’s works, but like most things I do not read, I like hearing about them. I also know lots of other people who are into King, so I post about King for them.
