CCCC 2009 Recap
[Elizabeth and I made it back from San Francisco for a third time this year. Unfortunately, I do not have as many highlights because I spent most of the trip preparing my paper and presentation, which greeted me with poor attendance and one question from a BGSU colleague. BK]
Day 1-3
- SWAG! All conference attendees received a tote bag from Pearson and a water bottle from Cengage along with a nametag holder and a program.
- I finished placing orders on upcoming textbooks from publishers in the book room.
- Elizabeth and I caught up with Dennis G. Jerz again and ate dinner at Lori’s Diner (my favorite restaurant in San Francisco).
- I shared a narrative about learning how to read for The Ohio State University’s Digital Archive of Literacy Narratives.

I lost my water bottle somewhere on the ride home. I thought I had lost my fanny pack too, but it turns out it had just ridden up under my jacket. How embarrassing.
It was great catching up with you again. I ended up going back to a different Lori’s with Eric as we were killing time waiting for our flights out Saturday evening.
It’s often hard to fill a room on a Saturday afternoon.
Dennis, I know my presentation was up against poor conditions going into it, falling on the last day in an afternoon time slot presenting with two other un-related papers…but poor attendance and a lack of questions makes me think my ideas are not important or worth hearing.
For some reason, I define a successful conference presentation as one that draws people and questions, which is a problem I do not know how to overcome yet because the opposite always happens.
